Browse Forums Building A New House 1 Mar 02, 2019 10:58 pm We’re doing a knockdown rebuild and instead of engaging our own private inspector from the start we opted with the builders recommended inspector. When the fixing stage completed we popped in and saw a few obvious issues we engaged an independent inspector to come through. They picked up a whole heap of other issues and we sent the report to the builder, who said they’ll inspect and respond. It’s been a few weeks and when we went to have a look, they seem to have continued to paint over everything and NOTHING has been fixed. Is this common practice? Are they waiting for the final inspection to be done before fixing everything? This doesn’t really make sense to me because they’ll then need to paint over everything again. Or are they not planning to fix anything picked up because we’ve already paid for the stage? Re: Crooked walls, bulk head, edgings... 2Mar 03, 2019 1:13 am This happened to a friend. Plaster around bulkhead was not level - obvious slant. He told site supervisor. Place got painted etc, then they came back and repaired. Had to rip down plaster, redo and repaint. I suggest you get it in writing that they will repair and a date when it will be completed and just keep track of everything to ensure it gets done. It would make sense to fix issues as they appear rather than have to redo. But trades get paid to do the job. I guess if they have to come back, they get paid again. You should be able to hold off final payment until all the issues are fixed. Also make sure any allowances are done or get money back. My friend paid allowance for floor leveling if needed. Wasn't needed, but amount still in final bill. He asked for refund. Re: Crooked walls, bulk head, edgings... 3Mar 03, 2019 6:43 pm pencilhead This happened to a friend.
