Browse Forums Building A New House Re: New home build - Custom Design WA 161Feb 21, 2020 8:09 pm Our cavity sliders finally got fixed this week. The builder is still working on one trade a week, which is painful to watch this close to the end. I hope things pick up now that the plastering around the doors is done. At least the builder has was flexible enough to let us get our built in wardrobes and desks installed in the kids rooms. The cabinet maker did a great job! Loving the black handles and the colour of the cabinets Re: New home build - Custom Design WA 163Feb 29, 2020 6:19 pm A few small odd jobs were done this week. A bit of tiling was fixed but not finished. The remaining shower screens and mirrors were installed and some unfinished acrylic render was done. We organised our own balustrade installer who installed the balustrade frame, the glass will be installed at a later date. Will look fantastic once it's done. Balustrading looks great. For us, we moved in over a month now, but by saying that the fence only finished this week, a few touch up here and there like silicons touch up paint just finished too. My advise is wait till the house completely finished before move in, because it is a bit inconvenience to see tradesmen around the house, and you cleaned the house and tradesman walk in to check window, light, security alarm, ects. But hope your finished soon !! Re: New home build - Custom Design WA 166Mar 06, 2020 12:57 pm Thanks Sanders, congratulations on your move! We will definitely do everything we can before moving in. Unfortunately finances always tend to get stretched towards the end of a build so it is inevitable that some of our "wants" will need to wait until after handover. Re: New home build - Custom Design WA 167Mar 06, 2020 1:09 pm Wall paint was done this week. I have been nervous about our colour choices, since we are painting quite a few walls in Colorbond Monument which is a dark charcoal. I was expecting the rooms to feel smaller and darker, but surprisingly the dark paint in the voids makes them feel huge! Possibly because it draws the eye up to the ceiling? Tiling also continued. A large chunk of tiling was ripped out of the ensuite to be relaid due to finishing issues with the edges of the wall and vanity. I'm glad they choose to redo it rather than patching up the faulty work. And at least it can be repainted if you ever get sick of it. Re: New home build - Custom Design WA 170Mar 06, 2020 1:34 pm That’s incredibly dramatic! Great choice! Re: New home build - Custom Design WA 173Mar 13, 2020 11:47 am We have a driveway! The guys at Simon's landscapes did a great job. They suggested using a different concrete mix to what we had selected with the builder, and I'm glad they did as it came out looking very neat. We also had our tiling completed, with ensuite tiles being fixed up and the splashbacks going in. I have a quick question. How much did it cost to upgrade your floor wastes to the tiled ones? I see in your pics your shower has the long rectangle ones and the other wet areas have the square waste tiled inserts. How much did it cost to upgrade the long rectangle one and square ones? Re: New home build - Custom Design WA 176Mar 17, 2020 9:09 pm amilelka Thanks Bobjane, The tiled floor wastes for all our wet areas cost a total of $834. This includes 3 showers, 3 toilets and the laundry. Re: New home build - Custom Design WA 177Mar 17, 2020 9:31 pm All up there are 5 regular drains plus 3 long strip drains in the showers. The price was to upgrade them from regular chrome drains to ones with tile inserts. I'm not sure how much they charged for the initial strip drains as they were included in the original build price. Ah thanks. My builder wanted to charge me $1000 for the long strip ones and $220 for each square tile inserts :/ I guess that’s their way of saying they don’t do them. Re: New home build - Custom Design WA 180Mar 17, 2020 10:01 pm We do them as standard on our builds (the tile insert ones) we use the bounty brand which are probably the most used brand.
