Browse Forums Building A New House Re: New home build - Custom Design WA 144Dec 06, 2019 7:03 pm The garage grano was poured this week, and some more tiling continued. The laundry benchtops were installed but we were notified that the remainder of the benchtops have been delayed even further until mid December. I hope this doesn't have too great of a flow on effect on other trades. The side panel of the pantry has also been replaced. There are lots of little jobs still ongoing, mostly bits of tiling and plastering to tidy up. The main reason is due to rectifications that were needed on the ensuite vanity before tiling and subsequently tapware could be installed. They replaced the whole vanity but it still isn't done right, and I suspect it will need to be done again. All the little things needing work are making things quite frustrating! There's a backlog of mistakes that we're waiting to get fixed and it's having a flow on effect. We're waiting on plumbing, plastering, tiling, electrical and cabinetry mistakes to be rectified. It seems as though every trade that comes through encounters problems! At least the builder has been cooperative in getting things fixed. Our painting commenced but couldn't progress far since the plastering around the cavity sliders needs to be redone. Doors have been painted and the wall paint has been cut in around the wall and ceiling edges. We also had carpenters framing out some unfinished areas, but they will need to come back as some of the areas weren't done to plan. We had our roof independently checked for that reason. I think a significant test of a builders credibility is how well they deal with defects. Our problems have only being cosmetic so far, and they have been pretty cooperative. But it would be nice if things just flowed smoothly from start to finish! Re: New home build - Custom Design WA 152Jan 18, 2020 12:49 pm This one was for not supervising works properly, they undermined a wall on an adjoining property and that wall came down along with the garage roof Re: New home build - Custom Design WA 153Jan 18, 2020 1:01 pm Doozer1905 This one was for not supervising works properly, they undermined a wall on an adjoining property and that wall came down along with the garage roof https://www.commerce.wa.gov.au/announce ... and-robert Re: New home build - Custom Design WA 154Jan 18, 2020 1:08 pm You will find the info on the building commission website if you want to read more Re: New home build - Custom Design WA 156Jan 25, 2020 3:11 pm Another disappointing week for us, the only thing getting done was the stormwater connections down the sides of the house, and brick pavers delivered. The main holdup is the completion of plastering around the cavity siding doors, which arose due to them installing a framed system instead of frameless. We are also waiting for kitchen fixups. The cabinet maker decided they would install some air vents below and above our ovens without checking with us first. They're hideous! Needless to say, we are getting them changed. We also got to site and found 2 big holes in the sitting room ceiling. It turns out that the supervisor wasn't happy with the level of the ceiling and is getting it levelled out. It's demoralising to see the house so patchy and messy, but luckily we ran into the supervisor on site. He walked us through and explained how they have addressed all our issues, which relieved some of our anxiety. Instead of using vents they built a gap at the top of the ovens that matches the finger grips on the other cupboards. We're still waiting on the cavity sliders to be fixed, it's been months since we raised the issue and weeks since they told us the parts were ordered.
