When the slab was poured, they have left some of the waffle pods exposed- so basically it is just a concrete layer on top. Frames went up today. I’m worried for her but obviously I’m no professional- my gut and all logic just tells me surely there’s no way! Is there ever a time this is normal? Re: Exposed waffle pod after slab pour? 3Jan 18, 2019 8:38 pm CornellEngineering can also provide a good advice. The main issue with waffle pods is good drainage. This doesn't look right at all, the edge beam should be there and pods should never be exposed. Also, there should be no spacing between the slab and the ground as a good rain and the water will simply pour under the slab - your neighbour will end up with slab heave or even cracked slab. Awful workmanship, for sure. Re: Exposed waffle pod after slab pour? 5Jan 20, 2019 8:04 am Thanks everyone. Much appreciated. I didn’t want to be an alarmist by contacting the owner of it was normal. I just can’t think of any situation where this is normal. They have also put the frames up which tells me that they aren’t planning on fixing it either. I am sure the owners aren’t getting stage inspections either and I couldn’t live with myself if I didn’t raise this with them and it actually is an issue M Y C U S T O M C O R A L B R O N T E 43 ...............Kitchen! 16 Nov 2016 https://forum.homeone.com.au/viewtopic.php?f=31&t=79581 Re: Exposed waffle pod after slab pour? 7Jan 20, 2019 8:48 am Footings Slabs should be poured monolithic unless specified otherwise in the engineering Details & Notes. Unfortunately, I am seeing photos of Footings & Slabs being broken down into part processes with potential future shear (Horizontal & Vertical) issues Can beans and slabs be poured at different dates? I suggest they get copies of their engineering, take more photos, query the builder & arrange for an independent engineer to Check for Non Compliance. hth Designer,Engineer (Civil,Const & Envir),Builder,Concrete & Masonry Contract.Struct Repairs Re: Exposed waffle pod after slab pour? 8Jan 20, 2019 1:03 pm StructuralBIMGuy Footings Slabs should be poured monolithic unless specified otherwise in the engineering Details & Notes. I know it’s hard to tell from the photo but it’s definitely the pod. You can when see indentations from where things have bumped it. Sounds like it’s definitely cause for concern.
