Browse Forums Building A New House Re: KDR - New Choice Homes Custom design - Perth, WA 61Apr 03, 2019 9:48 pm The roof and fascia are surfmist. The gutters and down pipes are Monument, which is actually supposed to be dark grey. I think they look black too in the photos, but when you see them in person they’re actually a dark grey/blue. Window frames are Dowell charcoal, because they don’t do Monument in WA. Re: KDR - New Choice Homes Custom design - Perth, WA 62Apr 04, 2019 6:10 pm Hi there, love looking at the progress with your build. We are going to build with NCH too and having our prestart soon but I am still unsure of what color scheme to go with our front elevation. Are the prestart consultant at NCH good in helping you with choices? Re: KDR - New Choice Homes Custom design - Perth, WA 63Apr 04, 2019 6:28 pm Kellie in pre-start was fantastic. They were happy to price up many options for us and then we were able to choose which bits to go with and which to give a miss. (They probably made $$ out of us..... ). Have you got your folder yet with all the details before pre-start? We visited Trevor's carpets, Reece plumbing etc and chose things prior to the visit, so we had a good idea of what we wanted before we went. They were happy to price up all our of extras. I think the colours are probably the hardest thing to get together. I had a really good idea in my head before we went of what sort of scheme we were interested in. I recommend Pinterest or Houzz to see what trends are in and get some ideas. If you need an idea of costs, I'm happy to give you some ideas, so you don't have ideas in your mind and then find out later on that the prices were crazy and you're disappointed. Re: KDR - New Choice Homes Custom design - Perth, WA 64Apr 04, 2019 7:07 pm tThanks for your reply. Yes we have got the prestart folder already and sometime too many choices make it harder to choose haha. We are unsure to go for dark roof or light as our house are facing west? Am thinking of going for either wallaby or basalt roof and hopefully from there the consultant can advice us what colour garage door and our featured render color could be. Did you add more led light in your house? I am unsure whether one light in the kid's room will be enough, don't want to regret not adding more in the end. Did you guys end up spending alot more from prestart? Re: KDR - New Choice Homes Custom design - Perth, WA 65Apr 04, 2019 7:19 pm I wouldn't go for a dark roof, because they'll fade quite quickly in WA, but I guess it comes down to personal preference. They will be able to give you some ideas or maybe visit Houzz or Pinterest and see what works well together. NCH does have a designer you can visit, but she's quite expensive. Initially we were planning to see her, but we decided on our own anyway so we didn't even up seeing her. We had 27 LED's prior to pre-start and added a few more. They were good with advising where we should have switches in certain areas. We added quite a lot of extra power outlets, as 1 per room is never enough. Some of the rooms we added extra LED's to and we also added junction boxes in areas where we plan to put nicer light fittings later on, as then the main wiring is done and an electrician can add the lights later on. You should have the electrical costs list in the file? We only did the bare minimum with electrical, as we're getting an electrician in later to do a few extra bits anyway. Intelligent home was worthwhile, but beware it is quite expensive. I got them to do the basics (Cat 6 cabling for TV's and TV antenna points with a 4 way), which they were happy to do, but we're planning on doing extra stuff later on, like TV antenna etc. We upgraded quite a lot of stuff before we signed our contract, because we visited their pre-start office and looked at things we liked and added them up-front, like the integrated rangehood, gas on glass cooktop, upgraded aircon controller etc. We spent around an extra $12k at Pre-start, which was around $2k with intelligent home, $3k in electrical, $1,500 in tile upgrades (rectified, etc), $2k in cabinetry changes (even more drawers, finger grip in bathrooms, etc) and the rest was in plumbing (black taps, upgraded toilets, sinks, channel grate drains etc). Some things were quite affordable to change, others were eye-watering, like the Back to Wall freestanding bath ($1,800).... Re: KDR - New Choice Homes Custom design - Perth, WA 66Apr 04, 2019 7:48 pm I did hear about dark roof fading too, will keep checking out pinterest and houz etc for more ideas. Yes we did get the electrical costs list in the folder, will definitely be adding more power outlets too. We are not sure whether it is more ex to do the extra lightings from outside electrician, will have to google to find out more. We are pretty tight on budget hence trying not to spend too much on prestart but then it is so hard not to too. Thanks for your advices, it did give me some insight of what to expect and do for prestart Looking forward to seeing more updates of your build Re: KDR - New Choice Homes Custom design - Perth, WA 67Apr 04, 2019 8:10 pm April 4 - Plumbing and plaster

I'm not sure if that's enough or not. I guess time will tell.... They'll show you the different types of LED's in pre-start. From memory there's 3 different options, plus different colours and surrounds. Our master has 2 and an additional one in our robe. Re: KDR - New Choice Homes Custom design - Perth, WA 71Apr 08, 2019 8:20 pm April 8 - Plastering Day 2 They've finished the rear wing of the house today and moved onto the laundry. We bumped into one of the plasterer's on Saturday, he's booked to do the white set plaster starting the 24/04, so they've got this week and next to finish the grey float and do the ceilings and cornices. They're making good progress, I think they should have the internals complete tomorrow and then have just the exterior plaster to do on the front and side.
