Browse Forums Building A New House 1 Dec 11, 2019 2:07 pm Hi All,
Our Frame and Truss have been erected. And I noticed a hairline crack that goes from one side of the house to the other. Below is a photo of a segment of it. I'm just wondering if I need to worry about it or have it mended? I did notice that on one side the crack has started from a nail on the frame. Thank you for looking Below is the link for the full walkthrough video of the crack. Should I get a building inspector to check or a Structural engineer? https://photos.app.goo.gl/cngWYDDVEVbyqwo77 Like ⋅ Add a comment ⋅ Pin to Ideaboard ⋅ Re: New Home construction slab crack 2Dec 11, 2019 4:34 pm From what i've heard hairline cracks are incredibly common and nothing to be worried about. The third party inspector actually commented on how few ours had compared to normal. (guess we got lucky with temps - or they just hadn't appeared yet). Which got us onto the topic of it and i asked a few questions etc. Re: New Home construction slab crack 4Dec 12, 2019 11:23 am John0322 Hi All, Our Frame and Truss have been erected. It's nothing. Thank you, that's comforting. I primarily worry if it has structural consequences because the crack spans the entire width of the slab (as in the video link on my original post). And if it needs to be fixed then it has to be done now than later before the floor and wall coverings are installed. Re: New Home construction slab crack 6Dec 12, 2019 6:38 pm Looks like you need to talk to the builder, he will probably say it's normal but because it goes the entire width, Id want it looked at by a third party.
