Browse Forums Building A New House 1 Dec 26, 2018 4:15 pm Hi everyone, I’m currently going through some concepts for a potential knock down and rebuild. It would be great to get some inputs from the more experienced folks here. Understanding that tastes varies and that I’m not well versed with design principles, I’m just looking for food for thought on the possibilities. The following is a conceptual design for the second floor. I’m keen to see how we can position the wet areas better. The initial thought is to separate the bath from the shower. I’ve been mulling about this and trying to look at various plans prior to this post. But if you have any other suggestions, that would be an added bonus. Thank you in advance. Re: Concept design evaluation 3Dec 26, 2018 9:06 pm I prefer not to have the toilet door opening directly on the rumpus room. I have attached a suggested alternative layout that puts the bath and wc off a small hallway. I also feel the master bedroom has a bit of wasted space, and that the study nook won't be nice jutting into the room. I have suggested an alternative layout where the study nook comes off the walk in robe so it's out of sight. Of course I have no idea what your block or outlook is like, but at least it's something to consider. I too don’t like a toilet directly off a living area. I’m not sure of the purpose in your original plan to have the shower and bath separate? Wouldn’t it be very dark in the bath area? Re: Concept design evaluation 5Dec 27, 2018 4:51 pm Thank you for that amilelka. Appreciate the input. And yes I’m absolutely aware that you do not have the full details of our block etc. But for now any suggestions will be food for thought for us. This I believe will allow us to assess as much as possible. So again your inputs are much appreciated. gogo65, great question around the separation. We are a family of 5. The thought of having a separate the bath from the shower is so that the someone can still have a shower if another decides to have a bath. That is the initial thought anyway. So we are trying to see if and how that can work in our space. In terms of it being dark in the bath area, are you able to explain further why you think this might be the case? Thanks again everyone. Off to a great start in my books. Hi everyone, building a duplex with my brother and we will then subdivide the land with council. Each duplex will be 360m2. The frontage of the house is West facing and… 0 3369 Thank you so much for the effort. We will use it to talk with builder.
