Browse Forums Building A New House 1 Sep 12, 2008 2:32 pm Hi all, we're getting close to finishing our house, which is exciting. Happened to drive past yesterday and saw our SS was on site, so took the opportunity for a bit of a chat. All positive, and we talked about likely handover inspection dates. He then mentioned something which I haven't heard about before, which is that once handover (ie final payment made, keys handed over) they would be installing things like stove, cooktop, and external HWS, so that they wouldn't be stolen from the site before handover! Has anyone heard of anything like this before? I had always assumed that we give 'em the money once they've done everything they are meant to do?
Thanks, I guess God didn't use subbies... Re: Installation after handover? 2Sep 12, 2008 2:35 pm Yep this is pretty normal Mr T.
My brother had handover from a major a couple of weeks ago.... they arranged with him when all those things would go in. A couple of days later. BTW where's the pics of the floor tiles? I leave you to fend for yourself, figure things out yourself. Terrence Malick Re: Installation after handover? 3Sep 12, 2008 2:44 pm Joles,
Amazingly, the tiles are taking a bit longer than initially thought - shock horror They've only done a bit of the downstairs tiling, but not the lovely dark tiles that you've got yet. (When I spoke to the SS, he showed me boxes of tiles that had been broken on delivery - quite disgraceful the lack of care shown by the delivery guys). The beige tiles look good though. Photos will come, I promise! I guess God didn't use subbies... Re: Installation after handover? 4Sep 12, 2008 2:54 pm Yep PD install all those things after handover too. Make sure you have your house/contents insurance ready for cover. Happy at Home Re: Installation after handover? 5Sep 12, 2008 3:11 pm Hi,
i have been told the same as we near our handover. A lot of appliances will be installed after handover. Very good advice on the home and content insurance. i havent really thought of that until now. I was planning to move in few weeks after handover, that is, only after we get all the blinds/curtains fitted, telephone connected etc. It would be risky having all these appliances in there while no one is living in the house yet. Re: Installation after handover? 6Sep 12, 2008 3:15 pm thesunchaser It would be risky having all these appliances in there while no one is living in the house yet. That's why the builder's do it on/after handover day Happy at Home Re: Installation after handover? 7Sep 12, 2008 3:46 pm Thanks guys - that's why I like this forum, I can see if what's happening to us is just the "way things are" without having to raise an issue with our builders. Now all we need is that they actually deliver on the handover - we moved out of our old place in May 07, demolished in July, had all sorts of hassles that meant they didn't get started until November, and here we are, finally looking like we'll get the keys in our hands! I guess God didn't use subbies... Re: Installation after handover? 8Sep 12, 2008 7:09 pm Hm... wonder if all builders install the appliances after handover date.
We are nearing handover too.. so, this topic is interesting. Photos would be great! ----------------------------------------------------------------------------------------- Built the Nevada 42 Next project - landscaping! We are nearing handover too.. so, this topic is interesting. I think it's pretty standard, VJ - I'm guessing they've been burnt too many times with entire kitchens being pinched! I'm not fussed by that - I think it protects the customer as well - you'd just have to wait even longer if all of your appliances were installed, then stolen, and had to be re ordered!!! Cheers! It's been 2 and a half years since we first the met the SC of the builders we went with, 1 and a half since we were ready to sign on, and 10 months since they started on our block... Now, just need to get handover out of the way, get a driveway, carpet, build a deck, and we'll be right to go! I guess God didn't use subbies... Re: Installation after handover? 13Sep 12, 2008 8:01 pm Well it's been a long journey then! Great that the end is in sight. Enjoy! Happy at Home Re: Installation after handover? 14Sep 12, 2008 8:18 pm Ours go in the day we settle, which is fine as we are moving the same day..
We have been told stone benches & carpet even go missing ... having visions of people running down drivways at night with carpet under their arms, bench top over the shoulder nesspop Why am I covered in feathers Re: Installation after handover? 15Sep 12, 2008 8:20 pm nesspop We have been told stone benches & carpet even go missing ... having visions of people running down drivways at night with carpet under their arms, bench top over the shoulder Happy at Home Re: Installation after handover? 16Sep 12, 2008 9:47 pm Well....it appears that the 2 windows that were wrong (which we were going to give to Habitat For Humanity, who help people who wouldn't normally be able to, to build their own houses) and about 10 bags of roof insulation, which was all shrink wrapped, have been pinched from our place!
I know H2B has experienced this during her build as well, so theft -of anything and everything is obviously all too common on building sites....sad, really, isn't it? Happy at Home I need to replace the worn mohair seal on my sliding window, but I can't get access to the end to slide the old one out & push the new one in. I could probably rip the old… 0 5200 Thanks Simon, I guess I'm no concerned with the volume of the noise rather that dead and hollow sound and feel that is associated with floating floors. But I'm not sure… 3 6162 |
