Browse Forums Building A New House 1 Sep 12, 2008 8:22 am Wow, embarked on a bold step to building a new spec home despite friends telling me "Get a private builder". But I like the Metricon Liberty very much and my sales consultant is such a wonderful lady.
Will be looking at bricks today. So many categories to choose from. Can anybody help? Re: My New Dream Home 2Sep 12, 2008 10:21 am welcome overthe moon,
maybe clarify a few things?? which state are you in, who is the supplier of the bricks?? how big is the house etc. this might get a few more responses. Good luck with the rest of the build!!! My New Dream Home 3Sep 12, 2008 3:16 pm Thanks JoBen.
I m building in Sth Melbourne. Size of Liberty is about 40+ sqs with some extensions. We were told to look at Boral, Austral and Selkirk bricks. On checking with the builder's office, we were informed that whether Cat 1 or Cat 3 bricks, they are the same. Not any better in quality as Cat level goes up. ??? Re: My New Dream Home 4Sep 12, 2008 4:49 pm Also bear in mind when looking at bricks that you don't always get to choose from all the bricks that eg Boral offers. Your builder may only offer a selection of the total range on which they have negotiated prices.
So get a list of which bricks you can choose from. The brick company can give you a list of houses built with certain bricks so you can see how they look in real life too. Dale. Re: My New Dream Home 5Sep 12, 2008 7:22 pm overthemoon,
I know the Liberty... it's part of M's signature collection. Love that house too! It was one of the houses we shortlisted! AS you are building a signature house, you have more choices for roof tiles, bricks, tiles, etc. What sort of colour are you after - dark? light? And what facade are you considering? ----------------------------------------------------------------------------------------- Built the Nevada 42 Next project - landscaping! Re: My New Dream Home 6Sep 12, 2008 10:27 pm Thanks Dale. We were told we could upgrade the bricks with a cost involved of course; but on checking with them, they said there is no difference between Category 1 or Category 3 bricks. It doesnt mean that Cat 3 is better than Cat 1. My New Dream Home 7Sep 12, 2008 10:36 pm Hi VJ,
To be on the safe side, I have chosen the Kingston facade with colors as in display home. How long did it take from start of paper work until site works? Builder has done the soil tests, we're finalizing our selections at 501 and will be meeting our coordinator in 2 weeks time for prelim contract. Because we started with Grandview, cancelled; then went back with Nevada 35, cancelled; then the Hampton, then the Nevada 39 again. Because we needed to start building, as it was a year after land release already, we requested for a "straight-to-contract" arrangement. So, we didn't go through prelim contract anymore. We had so many changes too (structural) and so many upgrades, that the quote had to be back with us pretty quick in order for us to finalise the quote and contract. We signed the contract 1 Oct '07 for a Dec site start. ----------------------------------------------------------------------------------------- Built the Nevada 42 Next project - landscaping!
