(I travelled from Beaconsfield/Berwick to the city for 10+ years, husband still does). Clyde Road is a s**tshow at the best of times. Peak times is ridiculous. Expect to be standing pretty much all the way in and out on the train (1hr 10min on a good day - if someone hasn't stolen the copper overnight, or it's not above 35, or there hasn't been a storm etc etc). The Pakenham line is super unreliable. Have lived this hell since 2002. As an example there were issues on the Pakenham line last week. Husband caught a 5.39pm from Flinders Street - he got to Officer at 8.35pm. Three hour trip home. Buses replacing trains are a common event. We're currently renting in Officer while we build in Drouin (v-line trains add about 40 minutes to the journey each way, but you're in coach seats the entire way with working air-con). Husband gets on at Officer at the moment and can get a seat in the morning, by Beaconsfield/Berwick you'll be lucky to get a seat. And it gets worse from there. Sorry to be a Debbie Downer, but if you have to commute into the city every day for work, the trip has the potential to be long, problematic and incredibly frustrating. Just something to be aware of! Thanks so much for sharing your experience. It's helping a lot in our decision making. Really appreciate it. Thank you. That is really helpful.
