Browse Forums Building A New House 1 Nov 08, 2018 4:50 pm Hi - can we change somethings in the contract before we sign it? Our builder tried to make us sit down with them and sign it right there but we denied to until we took it home and read it. Lucky we did, the took out things we never asked to take out and add extra charges in that weren’t there in tender. My question is cause they have so many errors to fix can we change things in the contract before we sign, eg noticed they have rainwater drains on our facade parapet and want to get rid of those drains? Are we entitled to change somethings before it is even signed by either parties? Re: Changing/fixing contract before signing 2Nov 08, 2018 11:16 pm Lol walk away now. You just dodged a bullet. Re: Changing/fixing contract before signing 3Nov 09, 2018 7:50 am The contract is their offer to build your house. If you are not happy you have every right to ask for changes. Your offer is to pay them to build the house based on a contract you find acceptable. Contract signing can be the builder trying you out to see what he get past you. You have taken the first step by taking your time rather than being rushed. If the builder has not got valid reasons (that are acceptable to you) for making changes think carefully about walking away. You may lose the deposit you have paid . . . . but that could be better than committing to pay a couple of hundred thousand to buy heartache. The Harder You Try - the Luckier You Get ! Re: Changing/fixing contract before signing 4Nov 09, 2018 9:43 am Of course they can't force you to sign anything. I told my builder I wasn't coming in to the appointment unless I received the contract beforehand with time to review. I then submitted a list of required changes which we negotiated over At the appointment they also wanted me to sign on the day, but there were still a few things I wasn't happy about, so didn't sign. The boss even came out to try to convince me (and said they would "fix it with a variation later"). I said I wasn't signing until everything was corrected and I was completely happy. They wanted my business so did this, and we were all happy in the end . Stick to your guns - you are the customer. And if they are being really difficult maybe that is a sign you should look elsewhere Re: Changing/fixing contract before signing 6Nov 10, 2018 9:15 pm If they tried to slip things past you then they are shady, ****** bastards and should not be trusted.
