Browse Forums Building A New House Re: Chipped brick face 4Oct 26, 2018 11:51 pm The home I am currently staying at has the same "issues". I put "issues" in inverted commas because I think you will likely find this is always going to happen to a greater or lessor degree to these types of bricks. I could take a picture of the bricks on the facade of the house I am living in right now and they look exactly like the ones still on the pallet you photographed. These chips / imperfections / whatever you want to call them haven't really been an issue for the person who owns the house I am living in and to be honest, we've never really thought anything of it till you mentioned it in your post. Anyway, unless I am missing something in the photos you have taken, I don't really think it is a huge deal. But that is just me and I realise I am not the owner who has a deeply vested interest in the home. Although I would not be overly enthused if it were my own house, I would have steered clear of bricks with that type of finish in the first place myself (different colour on outside to inside). I know the bricks I've chosen for my own build, for example would probably look like yours as well had there been a significant contrast between the inner and outer colours. Your call of course but I suspect your contract will state that brick quality is likely to be imperfect and there will be compromises that are considered "within spec" or "acceptable". Incidentally, near where I currently live there are a lot of houses going up and these type of bricks seem to be all the rage. Looking at the pallets over the last couple of days and I pretty much see what you've photographed. So either people are not too critical, they are getting them rendered (unlikely - they are all too "good" for that) or there are going to be mass complaints! ![]() Finally, I am not sure where you are building, but keep companies like this in mind: http://nawkaw.com.au/locations/melbourne/ There are threads on this forum from people who have used them for brick issues and such a company (or similar) one would effectively make any issues disappear (after all, bricks that are evenly coloured throughout are going to have chips and other surface imperfections as well - they are just hidden on account of the colour). get them to replace the chipped tiles. It will stick out like a sore thumb overwise. Also tiler will be siliconing the miters rather than grouting. Grouted miters crack… 1 4562 2 3085 5 11734 ![]() |
