Browse Forums Building A New House 1 Oct 24, 2018 11:05 am Hi guys, really need your input on this. Currently I'm building with Metricon and all my sliding doors (4 in total) are at 2.1 meters in height. I've been told that the sliding door height can be increased to 2.4 meters and this would cost around $1700-2000 per door for the sliding doors that are 3.6m wide. The larger doors that are 4.1 meters wide would be about $4500 per door. In total to upgrade all 4 doors from 2.1 meters to 2.4 meters, (2 at 3.6m wide and 2 at 4.1m wide) it would cost around $14000. Is this ok/normal? Hope to hear from you guys soon, would really appreciate any helpful input. Cheers Re: Stacker/Sliding door height - is the price excessive or 2Oct 24, 2018 6:06 pm They are expensive to increase height to 2.4. Where are you planning to have them. I went for increase to 2.4 for a 3.6 m wide sliding door. I went for bifold one which is better in pricing. Re: Stacker/Sliding door height - is the price excessive or 4Oct 24, 2018 7:35 pm Melos Go straight to the window company and ask for a price. The builder will put a margin on no doubt but at least you will know if it is reasonable Its best to check out the price before you sign, post contract variations always attract a premium. goodluck Designer,Engineer (Civil,Const & Envir),Builder,Concrete & Masonry Contract.Struct Repairs Re: Stacker/Sliding door height - is the price excessive or 5Oct 24, 2018 9:05 pm stacker door price around an year ago. Really appreciate it. Clean, I’m very surprised that the upgrade price is so much lower for aluminium. Or is it also cheaper cause it’s 4 panels? Re: Stacker/Sliding door height - is the price excessive or 7Oct 25, 2018 1:02 am You will be much better off sourcing the doors from somewhere else post handover. From what I see, $4500 for the upgrade of 4.1 m door is way too much. It is only 15% difference in glazing, so what is the total cost for the door? eg I currently pay ~$18K for top of the range 2.4x5.2 m lift and slide door (4 panels, alu+PVC, tripple glazed, U=0.75, easy push button operation, hydraulics-based) Re: Stacker/Sliding door height - is the price excessive or 8Oct 25, 2018 7:17 am alexp79 You will be much better off sourcing the doors from somewhere else post handover. Easier said than done, Post handover, will always end up costing you more in structural lintels, fixings, Flashing, etc Unless you plan for it. What you want to avoid is ongoing maintenance after installing you new doors. BTW it may also void any other builders warranties Designer,Engineer (Civil,Const & Envir),Builder,Concrete & Masonry Contract.Struct Repairs Re: Stacker/Sliding door height - is the price excessive or 9Oct 27, 2018 9:31 pm It's very expensive and wouldn't cost more than 25% of what they are charging you. Having said that you'll have no other choice if you want it and they won't discount. Consider that Metricon make very little on the basic build, they make money on the upgrades. How good is Simeon?! Always taking time to help others out! Wish we were building in NSW and could work together. Thanks for all that you do! 7 6577 Sure looks like the type of track that I fitted to my house.
