Browse Forums Building A New House 1 Sep 10, 2008 3:30 pm We are getting 3 quotes for our new house from 3 builders. They all have the same specs, design etc given to them by us.
We have 2 back, one 460,000, the other 380,000, the third will be interesting. Have other people had large differences like this, we are obviously wondering if we are being ripped off or is the other one too good to be true. Just wondering what other people's experinces are? Or you can even take a drive out to the Springthorpe estate/development as the last few stages of that development are all sloping blocks. All you need to do out there is drive around and write down some of the builders names and numbers on the houses under construction! An instant list of names you know build on sloping blocks Finally Designing and building the home I always wanted to! Re: comparing building quotes 6Sep 13, 2008 10:01 pm This is interesting...we went through a few builders to get quotes (estimates based on sketch design) with details on the types of finishes we were after and they all came in at between 240 - 280k....not much of a difference as others are getting! Have you sat down with the builders and gone through the specs in detail advising exactly what finishes you are after? And have the two quotes that came back been broken down for you by trade/finish in detail?? I asked to see all the detail from the builders as to what they based their quote on - went to their offices and asked to see samples of finishes etc and also to see houses they had already built....we were extremely specific.......then we decided to do it ourselves anyway!!!
We are expecting to spend around 260k on building it ourselves....31sqm flat block. Ruth -Bought house in Melbourne inner burbs, knocked it down & now...we are owner builders!
