Browse Forums Building A New House 1 Oct 10, 2018 6:16 am Hi All, I am about to commence building my first single storey home via a volume builder - EasyLiving Carlisle Homes. They mentioned that there would be Building Inspection carried during each stage of construction through a qualified Building inspector . However, I was planning on hiring an independent Building consultant/ inspector to go through each stage inspection. That guy is going to charge me $2000 for his services. Not sure whether it is worth getting my own Inspector or relying on the one provided by the Builder.. Anyone with prior experience who had issues relying on Building inspector provided by the Builder? Re: Building Consultant or Building Inspector for first home 2Oct 26, 2018 1:32 pm Hi Viks, a lot of people recommend having your own independent inspector. And also make sure they are reputable. The cheapest is not always the best to pick. Your home, for most people, is the single biggest investment you will make in your life so the $2000 to make sure it is built RIGHT is priceless in my opinion. Re: Building Consultant or Building Inspector for first home 3Oct 26, 2018 2:44 pm If you are getting a construction loan the bank may also do their own inspections prior to paying, but I also agree getting your own inspector is recommended. Also if you are in Victoria, I didn't think the builder can appoint the inspector, so you could just get the one you want. http://www.vba.vic.gov.au/consumers/app ... g-surveyor Authorised agents You can authorise another person to act as your agent and appoint a building surveyor for you. If you appoint an agent, you must provide them with a written authority before they can act on your behalf. However, new legislation that commenced on 1 September 2016 prevents the builder from appointing the private building surveyor. Before you sign a domestic building contract or a contract for building design services, check if it includes an authority for the designer to appoint a building surveyor. You should only sign this authority if you agree to allow the other person (other than the builder) to appoint your building surveyor. I would send it to the certifier who is technically your representative and working on your behalf not the builder's 1 2278 I do enjoy the drama:-D In his latest two videos he has started bringing security guards to site, I am waiting for the punch on to begin lol 6 45560 Adam Baines Grad Cert Bldg Surv / Grad Dip Bldg Surv / MSAAPA Accredited Building Professional APB20210035 Builders Lic 183023 Pest Control Lic 84868 Ph 0412202336 PO… 3 46836 |
