Browse Forums Building A New House 1 May 29, 2019 2:26 am Greetings, I'm planning of a single story house closer to the bay, not directly facing. I'm getting bit worried about the salt in the air. What advice do you have during the planning/build stage. How do evaporative coolers and other appliance tolerate the salt in the air ? cheers MB Re: Building closer to the bay in VIC 2May 29, 2019 5:00 pm The closer you are to the breaking surf then more corrosion you can expect. My cottage is 4m from king tide and breaking surf (Frederick Henry bay Tas) and I expected more corrosion but it has not been too bad. Building regulations will have provision for use of galvanised steel and SS brick ties so if well built you should be OK. May be a question for a good building surveyor to assist during the build process. You have to remember that a building surveyor will ensure compliance (minimum standard) but you can always and should do more. Your building designer should be able to advise your options. Thanks again for your reply. I was referring to a building inspector who will be contracted by me to inspect the stages rather than the builder's surveyor. Used the wrong term I cannot think that designer from a volume builder would ever give a toss to make all the elements comply to be in my favour. Thanks again Re: Building closer to the bay in VIC 6May 30, 2019 11:44 pm building-expert mbarlow69 Thanks for your insights @buildingexpert. Thanks again I have posted this before: We hired Darbecca to do every stage inspection, and I strongly recommend them to anyone that asks me. They were amazing.
