Browse Forums Building A New House 1 Sep 29, 2018 2:33 pm Hi all I am new to this forum so be kind! We are about the submit a DA for a multi-dwelling in Sydney (3 attached villas). I have been working closely with our Architect and we have designed a passive, sustainable build (as it will be our home plus investment properties) with predominantly lightweight framing and cladding with some brick spine walls separating the villas.......I love our modern design with standing seam aluminium roof and walls, Cemintel Barestone and Cemintel Woodlands. We were aiming for materials that had no ongoing maintenance, no repainting like Scyon products, but this may now be our only option...or the dreaded full brick veneer!!!! We stopped at a building site today that is using mostly the same materials as we were proposing so I was very excited and actually got chatting to the builder who was onsite......I was excited until he laughed at my material choices and said they are super expensive to install and he hoped we have a big budget!...and I would be looking at $450 sqm for the Cemintel Barestone installed!!!! This is not in our budget, I thought our budget was fairly generous, not dirt cheap ....but I now have to rethink the whole design ....... Would love to hear from anyone who has built in a lightweight home and what materials you used and rough costing! Even if you insulate a… 17 12002 The spacing of the studs looks pretty large especially for a load bearing wall. 3 11106 Re my second point – yes exactly. And often it may take additional time if the manufacturer recommends no more than X meters… 3 5617 |
