Re: Our Great Aussie Dream - bricks have started 42Jan 11, 2009 7:33 pm Popcorn, it's all happening so fast, we are over taking other houses in the street Although I know once it gets to lockup, things will slow riiiight down It's amazing to think we could very well be in our house in 4 months time, judging by BlackRain's blog and how long ago that they were at the same stage as us. Re: Our Great Aussie Dream - bricks have started 43Jan 11, 2009 8:55 pm Nexus, your place is looking great. Funny how a thing like green wrap can instantly mke it look more like a 'house'.
Have you really resisted the urge to step inside and have a look around???? Re: Our Great Aussie Dream - bricks have started 44Jan 12, 2009 11:05 am Yes! Even though it's only a wrap, it makes it look more "solid"
I have been so sorely tempted to step inside and walk around, and the other day I almost did but managed to resist! I consoled myself with the knowledge that our SS will take us through it some time this week, I hope! Just make sure you get in contact with your S/S, you dont want to be too far into your build and not be able to walk through... I must say though, we were on-site most days... (unofficially of course) Always happy to assist another fellow Cottesloe-r! Keep those pics coming!!!!! Re: Our Great Aussie Dream - bricks have started 48Jan 13, 2009 11:20 am Thanks Nicola
We just got a call from our temp admin, who tells us that our SS will call us this week some time. I'm a bit unhappy about this as he was meant to call yesterday, which didn't eventuate, and then today. Our admin tells us that we can have a meeting with our SS on Monday and have a walk through, but I would like to hear this from our SS himself. Which reminds me. We apparently had a change of SS, so someone else is now looking after our case. Re: Our Great Aussie Dream - bricks have started 49Jan 14, 2009 9:14 pm We're dropping around to the house every second day now - gotta make the most of it while we're on holidays! - and found that the majority of roof tiles are now on! They must have worked at least part of yesterday to get as far as they had by this morning (I don't envy them!) and by the time we dropped by again this afternoon, they'd packed up and gone home with still a bit to do.
Here it is from the front: Like ⋅ Add a comment ⋅ Pin to Ideaboard ⋅ This is taken from an open part of the fence looking in to the garage and through to the house. Ooooh it's looking darker and more enclosed now! Like ⋅ Add a comment ⋅ Pin to Ideaboard ⋅ This is all that's left to do apart from the capping. Like ⋅ Add a comment ⋅ Pin to Ideaboard ⋅ We get to walk through it on Monday with our SS, woohoo! So lots of photos will be taken then from inside rather than just from the outside. We also noticed that they've sprayed bright fluoro green paint around the place where outside taps will be, as well as marking each room on the floor. Not sure why they did this, maybe for the interior workers? Anyway, next trip out will be on Friday and we hope to see a completed roof! Not sure when they'll start the bricks but we're hoping not before we walk through wth K the building inspector. When DH rang our temp admin H the other day, she told him that D had just taken over our file Just taken over? From who? She didn't say. The second SS listed on our sign is G. So maybe he had been handling it until now? However, when our slab was being done, the SS mentioned talkng to D about the chippies coming out the next day. Confused? We certainly are! And not really happy about it. Re: Our Great Aussie Dream - bricks have started 52Jan 15, 2009 9:10 am Hmmmm....that's strange Nexus!
Wonder whats going on over there at H3nley. Maybe G was just handling it temporarily until the other SS came back from holidays? Being over Xmas and all? Just a bit odd. Seems like you have a lot of temps filling in for the time being? I am sure things will settle down once everyone is back on deck if that is the case. Shoot H an email and ask her who your actual SS is if you are confused. She'll respond to your question Either way the house is coming along nicely. Correction to my post - SS should read "guy who was in charge of pouring the slab" That might make a bit more sense, maybe! Yes I'm looking forward to seeing the bricks being done so we can see all our colours coming together, as well as making the house look even more solid! I'd love to go out again today, but it's 30km each way from here so it chews up the petrol a bit Building our dream H3nl3y home together House: Cott3sloe Modifications: Extended ensuite, grand dining, grand rumpus, Bedroom 4 option, two plus garage Frame done, roof tiles are on, brickes start this week! Re: Our Great Aussie Dream - bricks have started 54Jan 17, 2009 8:39 am We dropped around to the house yesterday to find that the roof was complete apart from one or two capping tiles left to do and some tiles were still left on the roof. The laundry door was on and had a door knob, but then we noticed that the front door was no longer there. We assumed that they had taken it off because it was the wrong one and we'd see the right one there soon .....
As we sat in the car and were about to drive off, DH got a call on his mobile. Guess who finally rang us! Yep, our SS "D". He apologised for not being in contact earlier, but he'd been really busy. He confirmed the meeting on Monday at the house, so we'll look forward to that. He also said that today the plumbers and electricians are coming out today to do some work, which we'll get to see as we're dropping around there again today to show my DH's mum and sister the progress. Also, D tells us that the brickies start on Thursday (uh oh, better get big K out asap to look over it) and a week after that our house gets plastered (hic!) Nicola - did you manage to get out to my house to have a look? You can look in its windows too Also Black Rain if you ever want to drop by and have a look at the house, just let me know and I'll PM you the address so you can drop around have a look too. Oh yes, one last thing I forgot - the missing front door Our SS told us that it had been stolen, along with the whole door jam! When you meet with "D", mention the forum He reads it from time to time... Tell him about wanting to organise Kevin soon, so that he can plan some time for that to happen and make sure that he is going to be onsite with Kevin for the inspection. That way there is no misunderstandings of what needs to be done on their part and he can get his guys onto any issues asap. Any pics by the way?????????????? Good Luck for Monday if we dont hear from you on the weekend. Re: Our Great Aussie Dream - bricks have started 56Jan 17, 2009 9:12 am Oops, forgot the pics

Looking very nice! About time your SS got in touch with you and yes as Nicola said make sure that he gets on site with Kevin there.....We missed out having our SS on site with Kevin the 1st time at frame stage inspection. M was a bit disappointed about it because he wanted to be on site for it too so that he could talk to Kev there and then and get the work the needed fixing done asap. Unfortunately there was a misunderstanding between us and H and M but it wasn't a real big deal thankfully. All worked out in the end. Oh and yes...please do send me the details. My wife and I would like to swing around there to take a peek!! http://www.rentfreeatlast.blogspot.com/ Building in Berwick ----------------------------------------------------------- "Flying is learning how to throw yourself at the ground and miss." - Douglas Adams Re: Our Great Aussie Dream - bricks have started 58Jan 17, 2009 3:54 pm Cool, thanks for the advice
Well today was interesting. We went around there to show MIL and SIL the house, and while we were walking around the back of the fence, DH noticed someone in the house in the rumpus. We assumed it was one of the contractors who SS had told us would be there today. The guy came out, and chatted to someone else around by the fuse box, who we also assumed to be a tradie of some sort. Eventually the one who had been by the fuse box left, and the guy who'd been inside saw me and asked if it was my house. When I told him that yes, it was, he said "Well what are you doing out here then? Why don't you go in?" I laughed and said we were waiting until our SS took us through. He then said "I can take you through". I said that would be great, thinking that our SS would be ok with this since he was a contractor and all. He then started asking us about who was doing our telephone and wiring, among other stuff which I didn't really take much notice of as DH spoke to him. I just wanted to get inside So we all stepped through the fence at the side, while DH poked me and shot me a look as if to say "why did you agree to this???" I didn't know why he was upset about it, but only found out later after the guy had gone. But we went in, and I took zillions of pics as you'd expect, while DH talked more to this guy. Eventually we went outside, and the guy left, and it was then that I found out something interesting. This guy was not contracted to work on our house. He was just going around the estate looking at all the houses that were being built, and had let himself in to our house to see if our wiring had been done He was looking for work, and gave us his card as he left. I was a bit surprised by this, I mean is it normal for tradies to do something like that? Just let themselves in to someone's home and look around by themselves? Bit weird. Oh and the other guy? He'd just come around to stick a notice on our fuse box to advise contractors about a meals on wheels service for tradies LOL! Now I feel guilty about going in to the house when I thought he was a contractor! However, pics will come a bit later when I upload them tonight Building our dream H3nl3y home together House: Cott3sloe Modifications: Extended ensuite, grand dining, grand rumpus, Bedroom 4 option, two plus garage Frame done, roof tiles are on, brickes start this week! Re: Our Great Aussie Dream - bricks have started 59Jan 17, 2009 4:23 pm Nexus, it's coming along nicely. Is the wrap to insulate against moisture?
About the tradie looking for work; if the land is yours, he was trespassing. Re: Our Great Aussie Dream - bricks have started 60Jan 17, 2009 4:35 pm Hi thlo,
The wrap (or as they call it, sisalation) is for insulation. Not sure about it being for moisture, though I guess it could be. I wonder how many others have walked through our house then Bit of a worry.
