Building A New House

I am building for first time. The house design is almost complete and moving to construction documentation. It is a split level home on sloppy land. Need advice from anyone who has gone through custom building a house and to chose a builder? Average pricing? Sometimes I think it is better to sell the land with the design and not to build.

Where are you building, I believe that makes a difference to the price. We are in Sydney, and prices seem to start at $2k/m2.
