It was Andrew Mavin at the time but I did a quick check and looks like he now does same job at MOJO Homes. I can confirm that your experience will vary depending on your design consultant, your site manager and the person assigned to fix any issues once you move in. Under no circumstances whatsoever should you build a home (with any builder) without first engaging a HOME INSPECTOR and have them INSPECT your home at EVERY stage starting with slab. (should be around 4 inspections total) and cost your around $300-$450 per inspection depending on which stage it is at. We used and were happy with JIM'S HOME INSPECTIONS I have built 5 brand new homes in the past 18 years and the last 2 we used an inspector. Only the last home (current) was in Australia and was the only one that was NOT house and land. Although our experience building homes taught us a huge amount during design and build process the inspectors still caught some items we did not, some of which were serious. TIPS - you can always get better appliances elsewhere so don't upgrade (although we did upgrade our stove) - upgrade your sink with builder as expensive if done after - always use LED lights under upper cabinets - extend your island countertop and have shallow cabinets installed on the back side and have it overhang for stools - make sure you do not skimp on power wall sockets/plugs. Ensure 2 doubles per bedroom and loads in your master bedroom for bedside tables and TV - make sure any recessed ceiling lighting is LED for less heat and to ensure insulation does not have to be away from the light as that leaves an insulation hole in your ceiling - get plenty of ceiling lights where you need then as doing it afterwards is definitely MUCH more expensive if you do not have a sparky as a family member. - dont bother with water filtering. Buy a 5 filter system afterwards and install under your laundry room sink - easy to do and water tastes awesome (done it for 10+ years) - ensure you have network wiring installed in your home with main connection from garage to study and then connections from study to master bedroom and anywhere you will have a TV (media room etc) - install ceiling fans in every bedroom, study and living area. Mandatory in bedrooms but also keeps you cooler in other areas. Sorry, loads more but these are some. Should start a service with my wife to come to peoples appointments for $100/hour to help them out as cheaper than fixing stuff you get wrong. We have at every step of the way used a building inspector and communicated with Metricon team on the findings . The quality and professionalism is definitely not there . Their design team , their studio tour , Tiling Studio they are all bunch of people who keep customer service as their last priority . Our electrical went beyond 50k as we added extra panels , fan points , extra connections for heater , light switches , outside connections etc . I agree that site supervisor makes a difference and afcourse the team sitting at the metricon office doing colour consultation . They are least concerned to have a beautiful home , lack understanding and knowledge . due to recent rains we have mould on our gyprock , i asked the site supevisor to take care of it and he covered it with paint. I am in touch with the construction manager and he has assured things will be taken care of . Lets see if they really do that . have no faith in them. Re: Building with Metricon in Sydney 24Feb 13, 2019 5:28 pm I’m also building with Metricon in southern suburbs of Sydney - the Vantage 40. Almost at handover. It’s been 12 month construction, which is a bit slow in my opinion. Overall, fairly happy with things, a few obvious mistakes here n there, which were corrected. My biggest bugbear was that I employed independent inspector, gave all their reports to Metricon, but Metricon would not give their inspectors reports to me - on the contract is the PCA - the Principal Certifying Authority. There is virtually no way now for me to check whether they corrected all mistakes from independent inspector or even whether any issues uncovered by their certifier were rectified. I don’t think it’s unique to Metricon...the system and processes for residential building are antiquated and need to enter the 21st century! Hi , happy to know that you are almost at the finish line . I am sure it will turn out to be beautiful . You are absolutely right they don't share any documentation. However, the best we can do is share our documents with them and have it in writing that we have informed them of all the errors found during inspection and get them to respond in affirmation on corrective measures. Most likely they wont reply but i guess we have to keep writing there has to be a paper trail . For eg . due to recent rains our hallway was flooded and the gyprock developed mould . Well , i wrote to them , called them and messaged them. They confirmed that they treated the mould by a solution which the painter uses and it works in reverse fashion that is it will eventually be removed in due time. ( not sure if i understand this miracle process ) but i reconfirmed with them over email. I have to double check this resolution with my inspector , lets see what he says. The main problem is not gyprock though but that the moisture and mould will be travelling further into your studs and into the wall cavity and insulation and causing health issues in the long term. Take off gyprock and check what is behind it. It needs to be completely replaced, anyway. Technically the certifier works for you not the builder Simeon McGovern Affordable Custom Homes, We design and build to your budget Ashington Homes www.ashingtonhomes.com.au Re: Building with Metricon in Sydney 28Mar 18, 2019 5:57 pm dany dulie After being on here a few years, and following a bunch of Metricon builds. I would definitely steer clear of Metricon NSW. Don't think a single build has been up to standard in a timely manor. No idea what other builders are like in that state, but Metricon seem to be horrible. Guys , after going through their back office and admin they have spoilt the relationship. I sometimes feel that Metricon brings the worst in you . I doubt if the top management knows how the people in their regional offices are handling the customers. They don't show respect or consideration . It is obvious they only care for their checklist. Agree with you both. Our Metricon build in Sydney took over 20 months to get an OK level of workmanship costing us an extra $85,000 in rent, interest, inspection fees and legal expenses. Metricon also brazenly breached a NSW Department of Fair Trading legal order to rectify multiple defects and complete the works within 3 months of the order. They took their good time hoping we would back off because the rectification works required were significant and they had no financial incentive to complete the build (with quality workmanship) within the quoted 42 weeks. Looks like the bulkhead is not at the right hight. They have to redo the whole thing or atleast the bulkhead. What a waste of time. I had a similar issue with my Metricon build. They managed to install kitchen cupboards that overhung the window opening by about 50mm. This looked shocking. They insisted it Was a “design detail”. And all other customers were happy with this design! I had to show them their own plans and demand they follow the contract. In the end they made new cabinets. I understand other customers have also demanded it changed. Every bulkhead in the house had to be redone and straightened by ‘Finishing Touch’ Metricon’s defect remediation contractor 2 or 3 times because they were not straight or level. Cupboards in the butlers pantry versus main kitchen were 20mm out of alignment. Light switches in incorrect locations...If you want reasonable quality you must check everything yourself with a straight edge and window packers etc even if Metricon says they have fixed defects. They will tell you anything to push the ‘stage complete’ button on their iPad workflow app that generates the progress payment invoice! However the work is not legally complete if it is defective and therefore payment may be disputed (per the contact dispute procedure).

But I think people on this forum who build with metricon in Victoria are generally happy. And when I look at metricon house build around my area. I really don't see any issues. And big builders are more willing to come and fix small defects. My small custom builder refuse to replace a small dent on my colorbond roof for example.
