Re: Sydney Demolition Companies - Any Recommendations? 42Apr 16, 2022 2:25 pm Hi Thanks all for sharing your demolition journey, certainly makes it easier for others about to start! Has anyone so far had success finding a demolition company in Sydney that will a) salvage and then b) deduct salvage value from the total cost? I have read online that demo companies will do this but not sure if this has been the common experience on this forum…? For example, https://homedemolitions.com.au/salvage-subsidies-and-recycling-program For those who have, what was salvaged and how much was offset against the total cost? Anyone had a good experience with Home Demolitions and salvaging? Cheers MM Re: Sydney Demolition Companies - Any Recommendations? 43Apr 16, 2022 4:24 pm I used Home Demolitions for our job( cheapest quote by far) but there was no recycling deducted. It is a lot quicker for them just to bring in the big 20 ton excavator and rip your house down. Our place was a double brick that had timber floors and roof framing with a tiled roof. The only thing that was separated was the bricks that went straight into the trucks and a large skip that all the sub-floor framing and roof framing went into. The roof tiles were taken off the day before. Whether any of the framing timber gets separated again at their recycling yard for resale or all the timber gets mulched I'm unsure. If you had a upmarket Federation home with lots of headlight windows, beautiful cast iron fireplaces etc that would be worth a bit is one thing but an ordinary run of the mill house like ours was, I just don't think it would be worth their while. Stewie Hi Stewie What did you pay and were there any asbestos variations? My dream is to find a company that can stick to an agreed contract sum without trying for multiple variations. We have used 4 companies in recent years and it just seems to be an industry wide thing. As an example, just finished St Ives, we had budgeted $23k, prices had increased since we quoted last year, so let the contract at $24k, over a 3 day period the contractor kept hitting us up for a $2k variation for asbestos he had found under the laundry floor ( denied) but he did find a large internal asbestos wall which had been covered during a renovation so we have agreed to pay a variation for that, but haven't negotiated the final price yet. I don't think we can ask the client for a variation so that means we will possibly lose $2,000. oh well, the fun of building FYI on the recycling thing, all our guys seperate metal, timber and bricks, but they probably all get crushed and mulched at the end of the day. How's you site drying out? I finally dug my strip footings yesterday, aiming to pour next Wednesday. I shall post some photos. Thanks Simeon It cost all up 20k ..with lots of absestos Athenak7 I took your advice and hired Stanley from Creative Genius Excavations, literally one of the worst demolition companies I have ever used! It started out promising as he made all the promises in the world to win the job, but after one day of hand stripping on the 14th we have managed 1/2 a day of work. I have agreed dates in writing from him and then every day when he doesn't show up we get every excuse in the book, and then he looks us in the face and says that he never agreed on dates. Show him text messages and he tries to claim that he never meant what he wrote. I have had many demo companies claim variations for asbestos but never had one that doesn't show up. In future I'll take the one who tries to hit me up for variations. At least they are working. When you have a new client you are trying to impress it's just embarrassing. Seriously everyone, stay away from Stanley of Creative Genius Excavation! I gave them my hand drawn sketches and ideas, and they tabled a design and tender that fit the brief. Have just entered construction phase plus with the slope, there is the requirement of a retaining wall as part of the CDC submission. Hoping to break ground by July.
