Browse Forums Building A New House 1 Jun 15, 2015 5:44 pm Hi! My first post here! be nice ... I am thinking about building a house and have a few questions... Never bought/rented ever before... so I know nothing but just looking into some stuff for future reference... and I am also avoiding doing my jobs haha!! So I have my ideas of what I want and now I am seeing how I will achieve them in the coming years. First of all I am planning on living away from my parents, as in far away haha but do want them to feel welcome to visit and would like to have a little cabin on my property for them to stay in ... granny flat, but small cabin type. So I am wondering which would be easier/cheaper as I have a dream house I would like to build on a property! Give me your advice: Option 1: Buy property that has a small old house on it... Live there/renovate until we have enough money to build a second home on the property (our dream home) Option 2: Buy property and build both a house and small cabin on the property from scratch while renting/living somewhere else - note: I do realise it may be difficult depending on council whether we can build two homes on one property but lets pretend that's not a problem - 2nd note: if we pretend it is a problem, what are your suggestions on loop holes/over coming this in general Hope it all makes sense! Thanks for the help... Re: Just curious about home building... 2Jun 15, 2015 6:27 pm Have a look at the http://tinyhouseblog.com/ for some ideas The Harder You Try - the Luckier You Get !
