I know your windows have gone in, where’s the holdup? It’s sunny today! Re: Custom build Sydney Hills with attached granny flat 82Apr 03, 2019 8:07 pm Hillsbuilds - tradies been catching up on their other work as that stopped due to rain. Apparently they are starting tomorrow bright and early. Re: Custom build Sydney Hills with attached granny flat 83Apr 28, 2019 3:12 pm Hillsbuilds how you going mate? Haven't heard from you in a while Re: Custom build Sydney Hills with attached granny flat 84May 01, 2019 8:39 am gablesrocks @Hillsbuilds how you going mate? Haven't heard from you in a while Hi gablesrocks, not much going on with my build, waiting for windows to come in . ETA mid May. Glad to see yours is progressing, although I was away for a bit, came back to check in and saw that your thread has blown up! And all over the definition of double brick! Re: Custom build Sydney Hills with attached granny flat 85May 01, 2019 8:50 am Hillsbuilds ...I feel like crawling in the woodwork of my framing.... Tell me about it! All because of double brick. I am pretty close to calling it on this forum. I have never seen such abnoxious people as I have recently on the forum. However, I have had a lot of support from the community as well. It's a catch 22 and I genuinely thank the ones who have supported me 😀This forum used to be fantastic. Now you have a few vindictive people. Re: Custom build Sydney Hills with attached granny flat 86May 01, 2019 8:54 am gablesrocks don’t leave! Just ignore and don’t engage with anyone who’s annoying you - that’s what I do. Re: Custom build Sydney Hills with attached granny flat 87May 01, 2019 8:56 am Hillsbuilds thanks mate... Anyways onwards And upwards 😀 I am hoping to be at lockup by mid may. I am sure you will catch up though as soon as the windows arrive you will be roaring and back Re: Custom build Sydney Hills with attached granny flat 88May 08, 2019 12:12 pm Windows due to arrive next week, but meanwhile builder is trying to do whatever else can be done. So site had a fair bit of activity happening when I dropped by. All say that reverse brick veneer, pvc window frames, double glazing are pretty standard in Europe. But here it’s very unusual, particularly the RBV. Brickie said that the inside of a standard house here in winter is significantly more uncomfortable than a standard house in the Irish winter. So glad I insisted on these! Re: Custom build Sydney Hills with attached granny flat 90May 08, 2019 3:49 pm Good to see some progress Hillsbuilds, can I ask about the benefits of RBV? Do you have outside bricks as well? So like double brick? Have started seeing a few people mention it but don’t know what the difference is and what the benefits are. Thanks Re: Custom build Sydney Hills with attached granny flat 91May 08, 2019 4:16 pm Hi gogo65, RBV means the brick is on the inside with cladding on the outside (in our case, weatherboard). Only one layer of brick. Having the brick on the inside allows the thermal mass properties of the brick to be used in heating/cooling the house. So the layers from inside to out are plasterboard, brick, gap, studs with insulation, wrap, cladding. Re: Custom build Sydney Hills with attached granny flat 92May 08, 2019 4:19 pm hillsbuilds I have discovered a better world on Instagram for home builders It's amazing - thanks gogo65. Your house is coming along really well Re: Custom build Sydney Hills with attached granny flat 93May 08, 2019 6:56 pm gablesrocks @hillsbuilds I have discovered a better world on Instagram for home builders It's amazing - thanks gogo65. Your house is coming along really well Gablesrocks agree the Instagram world seems to be lots of excited builders sharing ideas etc. I’m just waiting to have something concrete to post before I start. Hillsbuilds thanks for the info, so you still have plasterboard.... you’d think they could just render the inside bricks. I suppose it gives another layer for insulation etc. Re: Custom build Sydney Hills with attached granny flat 94May 08, 2019 7:00 pm gogo65 Hillsbuilds thanks for the info, so you still have plasterboard.... you’d think they could just render the inside bricks. I suppose it gives another layer for insulation etc. I don’t see why it can’t be rendered - just a matter of preference I’d say. You could also just leave the bricks exposed too. Re: Custom build Sydney Hills with attached granny flat 96May 08, 2019 8:21 pm hillsbuilds please do. I am loving it. They are amazing out there. And I am learning a lot. Custom build Sydney Hills with attached granny flat 97May 23, 2019 7:38 am Finally, Most of our windows arrived this week. Loving the louvres! Carpenters were around to install. I’m curious to know how they get the larger windows upstairs. These ones we’ve got, with two moving panes and one fixed, means that the widest I can open the window will be a third of the width! Whereas with the former I would be able to open the window to half the width. Plus the way these are I’ll have to pay for more insect/security screening. Although in the other hand I guess I will be able to make two openings per window which will hopefully aid in airflow. Re: Custom build Sydney Hills with attached granny flat 100May 23, 2019 2:45 pm Your build progress and quality looks good from the images. Hey are those awnings AWS 517 series? Look similar frame design to some of ours. Do you have a sliding door as well? We are currently in a bit of a battle with builder and fabricator because the frame on our magnum sliding door is really crap. Would be good to get a comparison of some of the joins around the frame. --------------------------------------------------------------------- Check our Homeone build blog here Hi all, Been browsing project builders' website and saw Masterton with attached granny flat design Seeing bad reviews from masterton in this website/facebook, does… 0 18282 I would suggest you simply go and talk to council about your proposal, most councils are getting onboard with ancillary dwellings.
