Browse Forums Building A New House 1 Jul 05, 2018 8:53 pm Hi everyone, We are building in a Adelaide and the hopefully the construction should start soon! I was at the property today and noticed that there was soil dumped on our lot. I am not sure where it came from as it was not there a couple of weeks ago! The builder told me it is not their responsibility to clear it and that I will have to ensure the land is suitable for the build. Has anyone of you had a similar experience? What did you guys do? He also told me that It is my responsibility to get the weeds and all cleared to get the footings and all done! That’s really annoying as we had not factored these costs in and I think they should be doing all this! Looking forward to hearing your thoughts and experiences. Re: Soil dump and Weeds 2Jul 06, 2018 7:17 am Unfortunately its a pretty standard condition that the block be handed over clear of debris, weeds, excess grass, soil etc. Nearly every contract with a project builder will have that condition in it. Until the block is handed over to the builder you are responsible for anything that occurs to it. We had to supply photos and a statement verifying that it was clear of the above before our builder would commence. Obviously you should't be responsible for earth moving that would of been done anyway as part of the build, but someone dumping rubbish or spill etc will be your problem until then. We went to the block daily to make sure it was OK before the build commenced, as we had everything from mattress's through to a dishwasher being dumped on it. Fortunately we could move it somewhere else at the time and it wasn't a problem. Hi Building Expert, Thank you for the feedback, much appreciated, there is also a code of conduct for building surveyors which they need to follow as well. I am looking… 4 3659 Thanks for your reply. I will just wait and see I guess. Trying to get some more information from our builder. 9 30235 |
