Browse Forums Building A New House Re: YOUR OPINION NEEDED! - 4 PANEL INTERNAL DOOR VS 5 PANEL? 21Sep 07, 2008 12:38 pm A builder friend of ours advised us to add panel internal doors if we could since his opinion was that it made the house look a bit more stylish and upmarket. I guess given the $ spent on the build maybe it is something we should have considered but we actually prefer the flat panel doors. Though I have to say those 5 panel ones look lovely. Re: YOUR OPINION NEEDED! - 4 PANEL INTERNAL DOOR VS 5 PANEL? 23Sep 07, 2008 2:23 pm d@n I got panel doors in my place and they trap the dust so need constant wiping down. You beat me to it Dan …….I was going to say, and still will, I see dust collectors. Hope this helps I think this is very rude! One thing I like about this forum is the way people can respect each others' different choices, not everyone wants an ultra modern style house Anyway re things dating, we have a 5o year old house, as far as I know it has the original doors, certainly been there since we bought house 22 years ago - and they are flush, no panels. Which someone said was modern look - all things go in cycles, hey? In our new house, we are going with the 4 panel door which was standard with our builder, I'm not a nanna either, our house isn't really modern style anyway so I think they will look fine. People asking for opinions on the style they like and then getting told their taste is crap. Samira asked for opinions between two different panel styles and all she's been told is not do either because they're crap choices. Someone the other night asked about colours for the facade they like and then basically got told how crap their facade choice was. You're right Helyn, rude and not good enough really. It's fine to offer alternative opinions and point of views (i.e. donuts and the dating issue) and practical considerations (i.e. d@n and Michelle concerning dust collection) but no need to rubbish people's choices in the process like some of the other posts have. (Unless of course in fun! ) Vent over! Jo (quite willing to cop getting yelled at again ) I leave you to fend for yourself, figure things out yourself. Terrence Malick Re: YOUR OPINION NEEDED! - 4 PANEL INTERNAL DOOR VS 5 PANEL? 26Sep 07, 2008 5:36 pm I like the five panels as well. Nice and sleek looking. The 4 panels are more traditional but I don't think they are nanna. That's a bit harsh! (Unless of course in fun! ) Vent over! Jo (quite willing to cop getting yelled at again ) Great post, Joles! I'm having 2 panel doors as it is what I like. I'm certainly not a Nanna, but I don't really want a modern style house...more traditional. Go with whatever you feel suits your house, and the style you are decorating it in. I agree that the four panel is more traditional, and the five panel more modern. The two houses I have lived in for nearly 40 years both had flush doors, and which is why I'm having 2 panel...something different! I don't really mind about the dust...a quick once over with the brush attachment on the vacuum and you're done! Good luck Samira! Henley - Wilshire Mk 3 ... I love my house!! Seriously, by all means, say you are not a fan of a certain style or prefer style x or point out considerations like dusting but please do so in a manner that is not a put-down to others whose opinion is different.. Re: YOUR OPINION NEEDED! - 4 PANEL INTERNAL DOOR VS 5 PANEL? 30Sep 16, 2008 9:37 am I would probably say choose the door that suits the house. If you have a period house then 4 panel doors and hinged wardrobe doors are fantastic. If it is a modern house then clean design doors will suit best.
I've seen people buy federation style houses and completely butcher the interior with modern styling. Re: YOUR OPINION NEEDED! - 4 PANEL INTERNAL DOOR VS 5 PANEL? 31Sep 16, 2008 10:40 am I don't know about 5 panels....it is definitely more modern than the traditional 4 panels, but I just wonder how quickly it will date?
Maybe something a bit traditional...but a bit more modern style? Like ⋅ Add a comment ⋅ Pin to Ideaboard ⋅ Alan and Thuy in Melbourne Building a second time! Re: YOUR OPINION NEEDED! - 4 PANEL INTERNAL DOOR VS 5 PANEL? 32Sep 16, 2008 10:49 am Now thats a cool internal door But between the 4-panel and 5-panel. I love the look of the 5-panel. Re: YOUR OPINION NEEDED! - 4 PANEL INTERNAL DOOR VS 5 PANEL? 33Sep 16, 2008 8:58 pm OK, so we've had no panel doors, 3 panel doors, 4 panel doors, 5 panel doors - so how about this: the 6 panel door!!
Like ⋅ Add a comment ⋅ Pin to Ideaboard ⋅ This is the inside of our front door, extended house 8 years ago, creating new front entry in the process. Just noticed it was 6 panels today (which shows how much notice you really take of these things in real life ) And feel free to make any negative comments; we're out of here into new house in a few weeks anyway Re: YOUR OPINION NEEDED! - 4 PANEL INTERNAL DOOR VS 5 PANEL? 34Sep 16, 2008 9:25 pm I love 4 panel doors... our builder doesn't charge any extra for four panel over flush so I see it as better value!! Re: YOUR OPINION NEEDED! - 4 PANEL INTERNAL DOOR VS 5 PANEL? 35Sep 17, 2008 12:19 am I know the look is important (of course!) but for a quality feel I like weight in the door. You can get $30 internal doors at Bunnings but they feel so flimsy.
I've recently had to replace a couple of internal doors and I've actually bought solid timber front doors just to get something that feels substantial. Good solid doors also help to eliminate a lot of noise. Do the hard jobs first. The easy jobs will take care of themselves. - Dale Carnegie Re: YOUR OPINION NEEDED! - 4 PANEL INTERNAL DOOR VS 5 PANEL? 36Sep 17, 2008 11:22 am my 5 cents worth..... I think the 5 panel door looks more like, half of a modern front door set..... Meaning that two of these doors would look great as a modern entrance set up......
I might alos be a little biased as we are going the 4 panel look as well, although in a different layout..... Re: YOUR OPINION NEEDED! - 4 PANEL INTERNAL DOOR VS 5 PANEL? 38Sep 19, 2008 10:32 pm I like the 6 panel. They are classics and they never date in my opinion.
Greg Thanks for the suggestion. The space between shower and sinks was too tight. I agree about the toilet location. So I have tried two other options: The lower one is… 3 6144 these look like missing batts. Go up and take a look.
