Browse Forums Building A New House Re: Superstitiousness - Throwing A Coin Into Your Concrete Slab 21Jul 04, 2009 10:03 am I have not heard of this tradition before - but what the hell, can do with all the luck we can get so will file for when our slab is ready We're (well I am) planning on doing a custom engraved stone step with our names and the date of our house. I think it will be in keeping with the traditional country look that I want - I think I saw something similar on Grand Designs once, only they put it on their window sill. I agree that monkeyupatree's idea is good. I was thinking of leaving a box with some photos of this house being built, the plan and the swatches in it for the new buyer, I'm sentimental like that. I am going to buy a bottle of champers and leave it in the pantry in the leather bottle case we got from Summitt when we finished building this house. I believe in karma too. I guess my blog of the new house build is like the modern version of a "time-capsule". So gweluphome did St, Joseph work???? We're about to put our house on the market and good so with some good vibes. Re: Superstitiousness - Throwing A Coin Into Your Concrete Slab 22Jul 04, 2009 10:59 am Looks like it must be an Asian thing. We will be putting coins (8 I think) under the front door. Not sure how I am going to do it just yet (in the soil under the slab or directly into the slab whilst they are pouring). Suppose to bring money into the house. Oh I think you need to use the coins with the hole in it! Re: Superstitiousness - Throwing A Coin Into Your Concrete Slab 23Jul 04, 2009 11:04 am dragon Looks like it must be an Asian thing. We put 8 $2 coins under our front door mat in our rental. 4 with queen side showing up and 4 with the aboriginal side showing up. That's what our feng shui expert friend told us to do... We sold the car that we'd been having trouble selling the next day to enable us to put a deposit on our new house. Re: 25Jul 04, 2009 11:27 am monkeyupatree Haven't heard of throwing coins into the slab either... but I am thinking of taking some photos of the estate (how it is now) and getting some newspaper clippings and putting them in a little box or something and placing it into the wall. Then if/when it gets pulled down however many years later the new owners will find it. My uncle found a newspaper on a job site from the day I was born. The paper read like it was printed yesterday... trouble in the middle east, some sport team in trouble, politicians being corrupt etc... more things change the more they stay the same. Re: Coin in slab 26Jul 04, 2009 11:43 am OurHouseonHighgrove Hi I have never heard of it either. Isn't it to pur a coin in your Christmas Pudding???? I think you're getting concrete and pudding mixed up. Now I'm no structural engineer, but I'm pretty certain you can't substitute pudding for concrete when building you slab. We'll also do something corny,too- get the print of our (the 2 of us and our 2 kids') right hand on a cement tray...havent thought of what I'd do with it! It worked and sold quickly after that Re: Superstitiousness - Throwing A Coin Into Your Concrete Slab 32Jul 05, 2009 9:36 pm We were told by a Greek friend that it was an old Greek tradition so we went the day before they poured the slab and inserted quite a few gold coins (as well as a $5 note ) into the waffle pods. On the slab pouring day we made prior arrangements with the concretor and when the slab was being polished they pressed our kidlets hand prints into a section of the garage and inscribed their initials for us. Some things are worth waiting for. Re: Superstitiousness - Throwing A Coin Into Your Concrete Slab 33Jul 05, 2009 9:45 pm When we pour a slab we always leave a smilie face in it. Re: Superstitiousness - Throwing A Coin Into Your Concrete Slab 36Jul 05, 2009 10:13 pm andrew_123 Hey all, Have a concrete slab due for early next next week. Just wondering if any of you guys are superstitious, and are or have thrown coins into your concrete slab for good luck? If you have, how did you do this? Did you just throw it on the soil, or into the concrete whilst the workers were working? Cheers Perhaps if watered regularly, it will grow into one of these; Like ⋅ Add a comment ⋅ Pin to Ideaboard ⋅ Blog: http://bluemistkids.blogspot.com "Never be afraid to try something new.
