Browse Forums Building A New House 1 Sep 05, 2008 11:58 pm Hi,
When choosing our bricks, we were told that we would have 'blueboard' above our windows, unless we upgrade them at a substantial cost. At the time, we didnt think it would look too bad, as the ceiling is only being raised to 2550, so that means very little 'blueboard'. We are now having second thoughts, even though it may be too late to change to brick, without incurring an extra fee to modify plan.. Has anyone gone with this option, and have pics to show.. I cant seem to find any.. -Sha Re: Blueboard above windows 2Sep 06, 2008 9:00 am Usually in Vic they use fibre cement infills, but it's the same effect.
Eager has infills above the windows. Here's a link to a pic from his house. Just scroll down the page a bit. Eager I hope you don't mind. Terrence Malick Re: Blueboard above windows 4Sep 06, 2008 10:02 am I think Eager's windows look good, so if that's what you're getting then I wouldn't worry Re: Blueboard above windows 6Sep 06, 2008 2:25 pm I personally don't like it that much and there is a tiny bit of extra maintenance with it (repaint it every 5+ years) but it's no huge deal. It makes the brick work alot easier as they don't have to align the brick courses with the window and door lintels (as there aren't any). It's worth mentioning that on most houses you end up with a small infill above some doors and usually the alfresco doors. So from that POV you can argue that if you're gonna get an infill in some places anyway then you may as well just save your money. I'd consider having brick infills above the garage door and front windows for street apeal but then have infills everywhere else. Re: Blueboard above windows 7Sep 06, 2008 2:37 pm I'm not normally a fan but I like the look of Eager's ones, maybe it's the dark colour that makes it look nicer. I agree with Mozzie, I'd consider having brick infills on the facade and saving my money everywhere else. I was lucky that my builder has brick infills everywhere as standard Re: Blueboard above windows 8Sep 06, 2008 9:05 pm Agree with Mozzie, I'm not a big fan of the look. It does look better in the darker colour, but the brick looks best.
We're planning to do brick infills wherever possible on our build. Damo Visit my blog: http://damosbitofblog.blogspot.com/ Re: Blueboard above windows 9Sep 07, 2008 11:26 am Thanks for all replies
I think those pics look fine .. only problem is we are having a much lighter brick, Bushland roof, gutter and fascia and paperpark garage, gable infils, and windows, so we have gone with the paperbark for above the windows. I hope it looks as nice in my colours. I think it is too late to change now anyway, as we signed the tender and I think one page was that we wouldnt make any more changes -Sha Flashings over doorways and windows our carpenter has installed flashings that is buckled and short of the window frames and door frames is this right Is there a… 0 10923 Have look at your house plans and you will probably find that brick articulation joint has been missed.
