Browse Forums Building A New House 1 Jun 07, 2018 2:17 pm Here is a little bit of background from our process so far... February 2018 we signed our contract for our land 2.5 acres it's perfect. We also visited a few display homes to see what was around and what would fit into our budget, being a large family I wanted my kids to have their own space so a 6 bedroom home was what we needed, we looked at many designs and settled on the Carlise from Hickingbothams the price and floor plan was perfect so by the end of February we had signed up and we were so excited. Re: Building 1st home with Hickingbotham in S.A 2Jun 08, 2018 2:16 pm How exciting - and what a huge block you have. Good luck with your journey Re: Building 1st home with Hickingbotham in S.A 5Jun 12, 2018 6:10 pm Why does it seem so hard to build a house, well that's how it is at the moment. Just getting a little annoyed with the lack of communication between our builder at the moment and it's hard to get started when there seems to be so many delays over what could be little things but are turning out to be much bigger problems. Re: Building 1st home with Hickingbotham in S.A 7Jun 12, 2018 6:11 pm That really sux. How it gets sorted quickly and you can get on to the fun stuff Re: Building 1st home with Hickingbotham in S.A 8Jun 25, 2018 2:03 pm So thing here are still going slow due to the energy rating standards, CADDS changed our window size smaller and one set of our sliding doors smaller and changes they have made the house look ridiculous, we showed our builder over a week ago and we still haven't heard anything back yet. So I'm waiting patiently to hear back to find out if they have changed the front windows to the same size rather than having 3 totally different ones, no doubt we will be charged the redraw fee even though we hadn't agreed with what they had changed them too without our input. Re: Building 1st home with Hickingbotham in S.A 9Jun 25, 2018 2:05 pm You want your house to look nice. This seems a bit crazy. Is changing your insulation an option to help with the ratings? Re: Building 1st home with Hickingbotham in S.A 12Jun 25, 2018 4:26 pm The picture with with Bank copy is what we originally and still would like, but the picture I have circled the window and sliding doors is what they expected to change it too, so we're patiently waiting for a new option that will pass the energy rating. Also living in the hills means we need extra insulation apparently. I just hope we get some good news by the end of this week. Re: Building 1st home with Hickingbotham in S.A 13Jul 04, 2018 1:54 pm So we have finally sorted the window scenario out and we are happy with the results, now to see our final floor plans to make sure every thing is perfect. I also spoke with the council yesterday to find out how we are progressing and the lovely lady said that we should hear something by the end of this week or early next week. So fingers crossed we might be a little closer to seeing our dream come to life. Re: Building 1st home with Hickingbotham in S.A 14Jul 25, 2018 1:30 pm Good news update, we finally have full approval from the council for the construction of our house to go ahead yay! But our builder on the other hand isn't communicating with us very well if at all... We're still waiting on our updated master plans to see our final plans. I hope they aren't this bad when the building begins. Fingers crossed Re: Building 1st home with Hickingbotham in S.A 16Aug 20, 2018 12:05 pm So here we are still waiting for our builder to pull their finger out and start doing something on our block, were constantly getting robbed off I feel and there's always another excuse! I'm getting p!$$ed off considering they told us our house should be finnish by Christmas, maybe I got it wrong and it was 2019 Christmas lol. I'm just hoping that something happens soon, so we can finally enjoy our little patch of serenity. Re: Building 1st home with Hickingbotham in S.A 17Aug 20, 2018 12:13 pm Damn. How annoying. I have heard that concreting is delayed at the moment due to both weather and a shortage of them. Hope to hear that you start soon Re: Building 1st home with Hickingbotham in S.A 18Aug 21, 2018 4:15 pm Thanks Nawsome, fingers crossed it won't be much longer it's not really the best weather at the moment I suppose and it makes it harder when they don't have the workers because they are flat out busy. Re: Building 1st home with Hickingbotham in S.A 19Aug 29, 2018 12:54 pm Getting a little annoyed with the company we are going through so many set backs and excuses hopefully by Friday our paperwork will be released to construction and we will finally see some kind of work start on our block in....4-6 weeks 😲 fingers and toes crossed I can come in here on Friday with a date 🙂 Re: Building 1st home with Hickingbotham in S.A 20Aug 29, 2018 3:16 pm Dates are good.
