It is less likely to be damaged if you want to fit solar panels at a later date. The Harder You Try - the Luckier You Get ! Re: Roof options: colorbond, terracotta or concrete tiles? 4May 26, 2018 10:18 am There is no functional difference between terracotta and concrete tiles. The only difference is aesthetics. With concrete you really only have one option, dull grey. You must avoid all other colours as they won’t even last a year before fading to the default dull grey. With terracotta, it’s made out of similar stuff as bricks. Fired clay. Ever seen a colour faded brick before? Me neither. Terracotta tiles will keep its colour and glaze practically forever regardless of UV. As for colorbond, it will be noisier unless you put special sarking underneath. It is a different look but it is colourfast unlike concrete. It will not however keep its shine for more than a year so expect Matt finish regardless of what you choose. Also if you want to install additional things that penetrate your roof line it is a bit harder with colorbond roof. Cost wise, concrete is budget, followed by colorbond with terracotta the premium option. Re: Roof options: colorbond, terracotta or concrete tiles? 6May 26, 2018 5:34 pm thanks for pointing that out. my area to be had some history of hailstorm. silly question from me :wouldn't hail affect colorbond more than Terracotta as colorbond has lighter, thinner material? i would have thought I'd get get dings during hailstorm. arcadelt Severe hail storms can break terracotta (and to a lesser extend concrete) tiles, so of that is a feature in your area consider that. You are correct. In a severe thunderstorm, it can dent and chip paint off colorbond roof but it’s very unlikely to leak or affect performance of roof in long run. Indeed terracotta may break but if you choose the right profile, you can reduce your chance. Hint avoid those flat slate looking tiles. Slate roofs are made out of stone so a smooth profile is not a problem, slate looking tiles on the other hand.... not so much. It reduces strength of the tile making it more fragile.
