Browse Forums Building A New House 1 May 21, 2018 1:02 pm Hi, I'm hoping I can get some advice from anyone that may have had a simlar experience or who might have some knowledge in this area. We are currently at lock up stage in our new house. We have 2 showers upstairs that were supposed to have a recessed, flat base. This weekend we visited the house and found that they have installed the standard 60mm shower hob around the showers. The problem is that the frame was supposed to have allowed for the recess, but it wasn't designed that way, and now all our walls have been plastered, and the shower hob and concrete has been poured for the shower base. I raised this with my site supervisor and his reasoning is that our house plans do not show recessed shower bases, but we paid for it to be done and it is noted for all our showers in our quote. This isn't our fault, how would we know it needs to be included in the plan. I'm meeting with him later in the week to discuss any possible solutions. Has anyone had any similar experience? Does anyone know what possible solution there might be at this stage? I'm hoping there might be someone with knowledge in this area that can give some advice on what we might be able to do to rectify this. Thanks, Elton Re: Builder didn't recess our upstairs showers. Those would be the first starting point I would look at. Re: Builder didn't recess our upstairs showers. What can we 3May 21, 2018 2:03 pm icat2000 Did you check and sign off on your build plans? Yes we checked all our plan and specification documents. It's included in our specifications (which is also our quote document), but it's not included in our plans. How would we know that this particular thing must be included in our plans? There are many things in our specification docs that aren't included in our house plans. What can we 5May 22, 2018 7:30 am If you have paid for it and it is specified it is included in contract regardless of whether it is shown on plans or not. Builder has failed to amend plans to show variations and for instruction to workers on site. Its contract management neglect and builder's fault. You are within your rights to demand it be pulled up and redone. Standard procedure in contract management is to follow through from variation acceptance or inclusion option to annotate construction drawings and to mark them up as revisions with a date and particulars of change, then to distribute revised drawings to supervisors and tradies on site.
