Browse Forums Building A New House 1 May 01, 2018 9:59 pm Hi all, I have a little bit sloping lot and two retaining walls on all three sides (left, right and back). The builder suggested cut and fill. So we need to add two more retaining walls on left and right side of the lot. See the following proposed sitting. I am just wondering if it is possible to have a sloping slab (one side thin and other side thick) on this lot without cut and fill. So no need retaining walls? Something like below. Just wondering if anyone has done something similar before? For retaining walls it's going to cost over $7000 and I am losing 400mm frontage. If I can do the following I wouldn't lose the land. Not sure how much extra would it cost for the slab. Please let me know if you have any idea. Thanks. Re: Sloping slab on a slightly sloping lot 3May 02, 2018 8:18 am Drop edge beam is already there because we are build to the boundary where there is a retaining wall. But still they suggested cut and fill. I am going to ask them today, but it can take a few days to get their response. That's why I thought to ask here and see if anyone has any experience with similar situations. Thanks. You may require deep edge beam, piles or a combination of both please sort out the engineering NOW More info required... For what you are proposing, the builder still has to do cut/fill, albeit less cut/fill, and a stepped slab on flat base. They will also put a drop edge beam on the downward side of slope. Even more, you will need screw piers as well. After all these costs, you will find that you won’t save much compared to doing a retaining wall. My intention was not to save money. Two issues, each retaining wall takes around 20cm off the frontage, so 40cm lost. And When we do our own retaining walls close the the original developers retaining walls it might affect their warranties. Unfortunately our builder informed that they can't do stepped slabs Would anyone on this forum know of a builder/company in Brisbane with house designs for a shallow block.
