Browse Forums Building A New House Re: Fairhaven Homes 21May 02, 2018 11:16 pm Hi GeonTrey, We had our color selection today which was lot of fun. Spent roughly $5k in the color room which was not too bad. We struggled with electricals a bit. ZAdded heat lamps in ensuite and bathroom for around $450 each. Just checked they are around $100 a piece at bunnings so thinking of doing them ourself. What kind of lightning did you get? Did you change something after the appointment? Re: Fairhaven Homes 22May 02, 2018 11:32 pm Hi Bronte Was wondering when your appointment was...glad you had fun. Isn't Vanessa lovely ☺ $450ea seems super expensive for heatlamps. Some upgrades seemed really reasonable, others super expensive. We have downlights in hallways family dining kitchen and regular baton lights everywhere else. Cant even start to think about what lights we will have...all our other decisions we are second guessing now. What colour scheme are you having? Did you happen to notice what the standard front door handle is? I sent an email asking how much for the white paint we want and made a few changes but haven't got a reply yet. Re: Fairhaven Homes 23May 02, 2018 11:48 pm There was bit of a mix up with our appointment so we ended with meeting Lisa. She was lovely! We are having the matrix facade. Our color theme is mainly shades of grey and white. We are trying to keep a Scandinavian theme throughout. We ended up choosing cat 1 brick which actually looks really nice with the other colors we choose for exteriors- I was surprised! We choose nice porcelain titles for the front pillar in our facade in a grey color. Inside we went with cat 2 laminate flooring. The standard door handle was just a silver door knob we upgrades it for another $150 bucks I think. Also spent $650 on the door. Very happy with our color selection. Helps when partner is from design background😉 We added downlights to our alfresco. Most probably will remove heat lamps and get it done ourself later. Did you get dishwasher from them? How much was it? We took the standard technika DW $768. It looks pretty average. Now thinking of either removing it and buying it ourself or upgrade. Re: Fairhaven Homes 24May 03, 2018 12:07 am We almost had the matrix...we love it but ended up going for surfcoast when we saw a Fairhaven house nearby with the surfcoast facade that we love the colours of so copied that except for the roof. We are going for a beachy/Skandi feel that's why we want to upgrade the paint to crisp white. Lucky for you liking cat 1 bricks ours are cat 4 and we chose off white mortar, still waiting on the price for the mortar but have read other people were charged $400. Which door did you chose and what size? We are going to remove the expensive handle we chose and fit a Samsung keyless digital lock. https://www.bunnings.com.au/samsung-sma ... k_p4220496 You are so lucky to have a partner in design. My husband has had enough of house planning talk!!! Our dishwasher is part of our $6000 promo. We are keeping the technika as from memory I think it was quite a bit to upgrade. We were told the technika is loud but we have it in our butlers pantry with a door so hopefully won't be too bad. Did you take photos of all your selections laid out? If so i would love to see them 😀 Re: Fairhaven Homes 31May 04, 2018 10:51 pm Hi GEOnTREY Thanks for mentioning your link on the previous thread. In answer to your questions, we had a few different versions of the drawings because they just didn’t get things right from the very beginning. Developer requirements had to be added and then I picked up things that were mentioned on the colour sheet but weren’t shown on the drawings. Like recessed vanities and tiles where we asked for no tiles. I would recommend going through everything with a fine tooth comb to be sure you don’t sign off and then are stuck with it. We’ve been in talks with them since July last year. We had a lot of back and forth with the sales guy as we extended and changed quite alot of the house and that process took us a few months alone. We had our colour appt in early Dec and here we are just signed the final drawings and apparently ready for construction in 3 weeks. We also had Vanessa and she was great. I, like you, found the colour appt very daunting. I was very indecisive and still not sure whether I’ve made the right decision on things. We were however, able to change things at the tender appt, so write a list and tell them what you want. The front door we upgraded to was the Corinthian Windsor WINWS 4VG 2040x1200 pivot and it cost us a whopping $2k!! Hence why we added the bigger door handle which cost $630. Happy to answer any of your questions, if I can and looking forward to seeing how you get on with your build. Ps. We are also using Darbecca for all stages of our build. Re: Fairhaven Homes 32May 06, 2018 12:39 am Hi Poniri, Are you building Bronte 191 as well? Pretty scary to hear they stuffed up the drawings so many times! How long did it take for the 1st tender appointment after colors? We made no structural changes except for adding an alfresco in the backyard so hoping they get the drawings right in one go. Re: Fairhaven Homes 33May 06, 2018 12:41 am GEOnTREY Won't be long until you start building then 😀 Haven't booked Tender as still waiting to hear back regarding a few things we think should be sorted by tender. Yes they said it should start 4 weeks after land settlement Re: Fairhaven Homes 34May 06, 2018 12:41 am Poniri Hi GEOnTREY Thanks for mentioning your link on the previous thread. Re: Fairhaven Homes 35May 06, 2018 1:57 am Hi Bronte19, No we are building the Iluka but we may as well rename it after us, after all the changes we’ve made 😄 Our tender appt took a good 2 and abit months as we did our colours in December and they then closed for the xmas holidays. Since then it’s been a lot of back and forth, but it seems we may be ready to start by the end of this month 🤞🏻 Re: Fairhaven Homes 36May 06, 2018 5:16 pm Poniri Hi Bronte19, No we are building the Iluka but we may as well rename it after us, after all the changes we’ve made 😄 Our tender appt took a good 2 and abit months as we did our colours in December and they then closed for the xmas holidays. Our colour appointment was 2 weeks ago so now just waiting to hear back on the tender date. Cant wait to follow your build. Courtney Re: Fairhaven Homes 37May 06, 2018 7:39 pm Hi Poniri I hope we can be as clever as you and pick up on mistakes. At the moment we are feeling VERY overwhelmed. We had no idea there would be so many things Vanessa couldn't give us prices for at our colour appointment. We thought we were going to come away and know the exact $ we would sign up for. I would LOVE to upgrade to a pivot door but we want a security door so thought no point. That's very expensive. We are downsizing in size and mortgage but all our upgrades are making it so much more expensive than we thought. Could you please explain exactly what happens at the tender appointment? Did you already know all your upgrade prices prior to the appointment? So happy for you that you have everything sorted out...hope it all goes smoothly from her on. Are Fairhaven Homes Master Builders? Re: Fairhaven Homes 38May 06, 2018 7:49 pm Anyone having Polar White Cupboard doors, Luna White benchtops and white glass splashback? WHITE is doing my head in!!! Not sure if we should have gone with Classic White cupboards instead. We chose sector white satin tiles for bathrooms, butlers pantry and laundry but now wondering if we should go with gloss as was told at Beaumont Tiles the gloss looks whiter* Still waiting to hear back regarding the price to have Crisp White paint. Any white experts with advice? 😀 Re: Fairhaven Homes 39May 06, 2018 8:21 pm Cboi Poniri Hi Bronte19, No we are building the Iluka but we may as well rename it after us, after all the changes we’ve made 😄 Our tender appt took a good 2 and abit months as we did our colours in December and they then closed for the xmas holidays. Did you guys keep it the same? Courtney Hi Courtney, So excited to hear something else is building the Iluka! We have changed the downstairs bedroom to first floor and added a theatre room downstairs. Did you guys keep it the same? We kept down stairs as is, only changing the WIR and Powder Room toilet layout. We also added additional bench space and cupboards to in the kitchen and extended the island bench to 1200, so nothing to major. Upstairs we just went with the extra bedroom option in stead of the study. When do you start building?
