Home Design Software - Too many to choose from?

Hey All,

I am doing a KDR and would like to use some home design software to help with floors plans, interior layout and landscaping.

I've found tones of tools out there. So far the ones I'm considering are below.

Some of them offer a service to draw it for you.

Has anyone got any experience feedback on ones they have used? It's so hard to pick as there are so many!

Pick a 3D program that will take you through every stage
Design, Engineering, Estimating, Simulations,Construction , Building Inspections,
Trade Sections ,etc,etc BIM Time wasting Trades

That's my problem, there are so many that do very similar things

As a professional I can say that in the end it will better have it drawn up by professional software anyway so for your own experimentation use whichever one you find easiest to use. The problems you encounter when needing changes to be made or a builder requesting additional info can cause dramas with these tools. But it's a great way to get started DIY and can save you a lot of $$$ for a draftsman if you come up with a well resolved plan.

Pick a program that will allow
1. Easy File Transfers/Translation- Stops people from having to redo things
2. Covers the complete process Design->Engineering->Construction Stages
3. Allows easy extraction of data, proofs and quants
4. Allows for scripting and automation
30 Million Sketchup users can't be wrong
