Browse Forums Building A New House Re: Should of brought established lol 24Apr 20, 2018 4:42 pm CalicoCat I had no chance with established houses here (Geelong/South West Victoria region). On my very modest salary and doing it alone (Mum as guarantor though, which has made it all happen). I was looking at 2 bedroom units in outer Geelong suburbs or maybe 3 bedroom house in regional areas. Same-same but different for us. We bought the worst house in the ... well not best street, but a nice quiet street at least, and even though there's a business-park a few km's north of us, our street only runs from one rat-run street to another rat-run street so apart from those of us who live in it only lost people ever venture down it. After living there for nearly 10 years and realising it wasn't worth renovating, we looked around the area for alternatives (I can walk to work, my better-half drives in about 10 minutes, we have a housemate who works in the same building as my better-half & she walks or runs a few days a week; and public transport with very regular buses is nearby for the purposes of the future & job-changes). There was absolutely nothing that had what we wanted, and the stuff that might have been close to what we wanted (ie. would've needed 6 figures spent on them to make them into what we wanted) would have cost at least $300k more to buy than we could've sold our place for PLUS the overall cost of building (including rental for a year etc). If you're not fussy & you're just after a bedroom count, then yeah, no problems. But if you want anything slightly unusual (eg. some thermal efficiency & airflow-management for comfort reasons, more than two garage spots, proper sized bedrooms, enough storage), then a little bit of proper design buys you that slightly unusual stuff for not-much during a build yet it's ridiculously expensive to "install" into an existing house. i imagine you also have another contract with an architect? and yeah, whatever other's said about special conditions and appendices 16 16007 hey there! 😊 so, it’s kinda common for standard drawer depths to be around 500mm since most cabinets use this size to fit the usual runners… 3 20908 I've decided, after a period of confusion (my building broker told me it's probably not worth it to use a lawyer, but others have said it is a must) that I definitely will… 7 27953 |
