Browse Forums Building A New House 1 Apr 01, 2018 10:40 pm Hi All, We are planning to build a house in Brisbane. We would like to have large porcelain tiles in living areas. Builder apparently charge a fare bit extra for that. Looks like it's cheaper to get it done after the handover. If I have to do the floor covering after handover, I don't mind to do the electrical and driveway also after handover. Normally I prefer to get everything done by the builder because then they are responsible for the whole house. I think it's a bit of trouble to find a good tradesman and get it done after handover. However, if I can save a fair bit of money I am willing to do it once the builder handover the house. Following is builder's quote For Porcelain tiles $160 per sqm (supply and lay). We have about 100sqm tiles and 100sqm carpet. So the quote is $20K for floor covering (tile and carpet) Driveway $6000 (5.5m long) Electrical roughly $5000 If anyone you have done them before, may I know roughly how much can I save by doing them outside? Just wondering if it is worth do that... Thank youl Sam Re: How much normally can be saved by doing floor covering, 2Apr 01, 2018 11:21 pm Porcelain tiles - you can get those for as cheap as $20 per sq m in various outlets like https://www.tfo.com.au/. Installation is $50-60 per sq m + GST in Sydney, in Brisbane should be cheaper. got it. thanks.
