Despite having what we thought was enough provision in the contract for upgrades to 600 x 600 polished porcelain tiles plus mosaic features tiles, we severely underestimated costs and needed another $12k in addition to what we budgeted for 😩. Made a couple of small compromises to keep costs from going even higher, but in the end we are happy with our choices. A visit to beaumont's is always an extra cost. When I left there the extra tiles cost (the upgrade) was 59k. That was on top of the 35k that was the standard tiles cost. I feel better now.... we had about $13k for standard tiles in contract but upgrades cost us extra $21k. I guess your house is bigger too... Re: Building a Metricon Glendale 42 Limited Edition in Melbo 137Aug 02, 2018 3:04 pm Tiles are a b!tchhh! This was one of the few things that we didn't expect to pay so much for during our build as well. This was one of the few things that we didn't expect to pay so much for during our build as well. It's a killer isn't it?? I just wish the SCs would have given us more of an idea of what was needed as an allowance in the contract for the upgrade costs.... I had told them we were going to do 600 x 600 tiles and they never even mentioned putting more money in. It was only at the last minute we asked to put an extra $9K in to 'cover' ourselves. But to then find out we went over by $21K... kind of annoying. But it has to be done - and we don't want the headache of doing it after handover and having to find the cash for it. Already doing that with carpet... Re: Building a Metricon Glendale 42 Limited Edition in Melbo 139Aug 02, 2018 3:50 pm Yeah we ended up dropping main living area tiles with M, paid the administration fees for the alterations. Got it done post, so we could get 800 x 800 polished porcelain without having a rob a bank.
