Having NBN connected to your new home

Hi there

Long time lurker here. We are about to collect keys on our new build in an established suburb of WA (not a new "smart" estate).

Our builder has put certain infrastructure to connect us to the NBN (i.e. Lead-in conduit, Power supply unit etc) ready for us to connect.

All our neighbours houses on the NBN website show they are connected. However our property says "It's coming"!

Our current service provider OPTUS website shows we have NBN Fibre to the Node available to our new address.

OPTUS advised us that they could connect us to the NBN as part of our relocation. Two sales staff have assured us the property is NBN ready. However after requesting relocation, their relocation team advised us that we have to submit a development application on the NBN website that looks like something done by builders/developers and costs a few hundred dollars????

We're so confused! Has anyone else had this drama??? It was so simple getting the NBN connected to our rental and didn't cost us anything.

NBN for a new home is a $300 connection/ 1 time set-up fee if its FTTP. This is not avoidable as its a charge directly from NBN and gets passed to you as the costumer. Optus should be able to tell you if it can be booked in. We just booked ours in to be completed on the 19th of march.

We have FTTN so don't know if that makes a difference re price.

Optus seem to give us different answers depending on who we speak too Will try calling them again tomorrow

Try another provider? Aussie broadband are by far the best at the moment.

However if they can't give us the service they said they could we may have an out

Has your property been subdivided? If so, the person who subdivided the land should have ensured that all services were connected, including the NBN.

We had a similar situation, although our suburb is an FTTP area.

Find out from your RSP what your NBN Service Class is. By the sounds of it, you will either be SC 10, 11, 12 or 13. Once you know, you can give the NBN a call 1800 687 626 and find out what you need to do get a connection. You might not be able to avoid paying the new development fee (note this is different to the connection fee).

No not a sub-divided block. Just a vacant block in an established area.

Not sure why they have asked you to do an AFR, that is only required for new developments (includes small subdivisions). So your street number is not #A/B/C/D?

Nope just a regular straight out street number on an existing residential one dwelling only block

So you purchased the block vacant, was there a house on that block previously that was demolished?

No previous dwelling. Just a vacant block.

Im in the same boat. My internet is via Foxtel as still under contract til December, so will be calling them to find out what the go is.

My new build address says not yet available but the nearest existing house 2 doors up says it is available.

Builder has installed data.power points in garage and there is a prelay run from next to my meter box towards a telstra pit, so I guess I facilitate with Foxtel to get connected and cop the $300

Since there has never been a telecommunications connection to the property you will likely have to do the AFR, How long ago was area developed?

Basically ended up getting a result by calling the NBN people.

Was eventually advised by NBN (after he checked a different system) to tell our service provider to get a MISSING ADDRESS TICKET from the NBN ORDER SUPPORT TEAM.

NBN now scheduled for the 28th 🤞

Just a further update.

A search of our address on the NBN website now returns a "Great news! You are ready to connect" message as opposed to the "It's coming by 2020" message we used to get.

So looks like the Missing Address Ticket was just the ticket for our issues so for those others having dramas get your ISP to check with the NBN in case your address is missing too Could save you some time and money (and many many phones calls).
