Browse Forums Building A New House 1 Feb 11, 2018 2:19 pm Hi guys, feeling pretty flat right now. We're first home builders/buyers & our slab was poured yesterday. Just been out for a look today! It seems as though the slab takes up almost our whole block. There is hardly any yard space left. Our block is 800sqm & our house (including double garage & patio) is 220sqm. We know it's not a huge block, but definitely thought we'd have more of a backyard & sideyard than how it currently appears. We were hoping to put a shed in the backyard, but I can't see where it would fit & we were supposed to have enough room down one side of the house to fit a car through, but again it doesn't seem possible. When we saw (on paper) how the house would sit on the block, there seemed to be plenty of room left for a shed, gardens, possibly a small pool down the track, but after seeing the slab today none of that seems possible. My partner thinks everything will be fine & once the frames go up & we fence the block it wont seem so bad, but I'm just not sure. Has anyone else been through similar? Re: Slab down - takes up most of yard? 2Feb 11, 2018 3:11 pm I've gone through similar feelings:

Re: Slab down - takes up most of yard? 4Feb 11, 2018 4:59 pm That can't be right, as the house is barely covering a quarter of your land, stand in every corner of your block, this will give you more accurate indication of your space you have, generally looking down into house and to the backyard will make space look smaller, 800 Sq metres is a large block today, there has to be large chunks of land left. Re: Slab down - takes up most of yard? 5Feb 11, 2018 5:10 pm you would have gotten site plans with your house drawings right? 800sqm2 is a good size! you should definitely have a backyard for sure. Thank you. That is really helpful.
