Browse Forums Building A New House Re: Barbie Dream House - First Build in Port Stephens 22Mar 02, 2018 1:21 pm It's exciting to have some movement after waiting for soooo long, we placed our initial deposit on the land September 2016. I hope the start date comes quickly because I keep thinking of new things I want to buy! Currently longing for a floor to ceiling heated towel rail in the ensuite. ~ Emma Re: Barbie Dream House - First Build in Port Stephens 23Mar 14, 2018 6:56 am I've been a bit MIA lately with nothing much to report. Expecting the commencement letter to come back in 48 hours. Builder has stated we'll be given our start date within 2-3 days of them receiving the letter, and the start date will be within the next 2-3 weeks. I'll believe that when it happens! Maybe looking at the week following Easter. Also have one final selection appointment with Reece this Saturday to confirm basins and tapware, and waiting on a quote from the builder for acoustic insulation to all internal walls. ~ Emma Re: Barbie Dream House - First Build in Port Stephens 24Mar 16, 2018 1:02 pm Is hard to keep posting when not a lot is happening. I hope you have your commencement letter and hopefully a site start date. If all goes to plan for us we should start maybe around the same time as you Love the chesterfield style sofa its very elegant. Oh the last selections appointment will be enjoyable, are you thinking under or over mount basins? Re: Barbie Dream House - First Build in Port Stephens 25Mar 17, 2018 1:28 pm No commencement letter or start date yet but I'm sure both aren't too far away, and honestly having another week or so to save is a really good thing. I'm telling myself to be less impatient. Reece was so fun! Most things we were certain of but we walked out with a variation for fancy rimless toilets and underfloor heating! Nice colour choice. I'm looking at the same colour for the bed I have my eye on at Harvey Norman. It complements charcoal very well, that's what I'm planning for curtains. ~ Emma Re: Barbie Dream House - First Build in Port Stephens 30Mar 19, 2018 3:00 pm Commencement letter has been received! But because we raised an unexpected variation over the weekend it will still be a week or so before we are notified of our placement on the construction list. A few more weeks of saving will definitely cover the extra costs though, so it's good news. I turn 30 mid-October and it's getting less likely that I'll have a finished house for my birthday, but I'm hopeful we'll be in by Christmas?! ~ Emma Re: Barbie Dream House - First Build in Port Stephens 33Mar 25, 2018 8:26 pm Congratulations on your commencement letter and the final variation, your getting closer by the second now. You don’t think you will be in by Oct? what the build time frames are like in port Stephens? Love all your Reece selections too. Really looking forward to seeing your home start. Re: Barbie Dream House - First Build in Port Stephens 34Mar 26, 2018 5:37 am Our contract states 30 weeks but builder has said twice now that we'll be looking at more like 25. I hope they are right because that would be early October! I'm wanting to take maybe a month off work to move and settle in properly. ~ Emma Barbie Dream House - First Build in Port Stephens 35Mar 26, 2018 1:40 pm 30 weeks seems pretty reasonable to be honest, 25 would be excellent and I hope that happens for you. I would like my hubby to take 2 weeks off to get busy on the pool decking and fencing. I am currently looking at screening hedges etc for our side boundaries. I do not want to see my neighbours or visa versa, the scale is nuts though. Have you put any thought into this? We've waited this long and I'd prefer they not rush through the build so I'm happy with 30 weeks. Thankful I negotiated liquidated damages at contract signing just in case they do encounter delays. For boundary hedge screening we're seriously considering coffee bushes! They might not fruit here but they will make a dense hedge and are a bit more interesting than a lilly pilly. ~ Emma Re: Barbie Dream House - First Build in Port Stephens 37Mar 28, 2018 5:36 am Tiny update: we've received phone calls about getting the utilities switched on at our block. Any time someone (other than us every weekend!) physically attends our block I get excited. I also very excitedly sent our neighbour photos of their portaloo, temp fence and slab formwork in the hopes they'll do the same for us when we finally start. ~ Emma Re: Barbie Dream House - First Build in Port Stephens 38Mar 28, 2018 7:08 am I do agree with not rushing a quality build is far better. I never thought of coffee bushes I looked them up and they are really interesting and would fruit here, what a cool idea. I feel the same way about Lilly pillies Meh. A tiny update is awesome utilities mean workers . That’s kind with the photos fingers crossed they return the favour for you.
