Site cut will be within the next two weeks. It still doesn't quite feel real yet!
Browse Forums Building A New House Re: Barbie Dream House - First Build in Port Stephens 44Mar 30, 2018 12:21 pm That’s killer exciting I know in a normal setting we would all be deemed completely nuts but in the world of building a tap is unreal. Your so close to starting I bet your jumping for joy Re: Barbie Dream House - First Build in Port Stephens 45Mar 30, 2018 12:39 pm I had to downplay my tap excitement because the tradies nextdoor were watching, I didn't think anyone would be working today. It seems our builder isn't large enough to have an official construction list, we'll just get a phone call within the fortnight to say the site cut has been booked for X-date. I'm so excited but it still doesn't seem real, even with the tap! ~ Emma Barbie Dream House - First Build in Port Stephens 46Mar 30, 2018 4:58 pm Hahahhaha oh that’s rough they where watching when all you really want to do is clap hands and squeal like a 15 year old a a Beiber concert but can’t 🤨 hopefully next time you go there is no one there and you can let lose Once the porter loo rocks up and the builders sign is hammered in it should hit home. Crossing fingers for you that the weather stays fine for you Re: Barbie Dream House - First Build in Port Stephens 50Apr 08, 2018 11:06 am Like ⋅ Add a comment ⋅ Pin to Ideaboard ⋅ Four hours, a trip to Bunnings and a broken shovel later, hubs and I successfully relocated our street tree together for far less than the quote we received ($1320! With no guarantee the tree will survive). I think our frontage looks even more grand now (it's just shy of 20m wide). We also added a nifty curl of ag pipe for easy root watering access: Like ⋅ Add a comment ⋅ Pin to Ideaboard ⋅ I really hope the tree makes it! ~ Emma Barbie Dream House - First Build in Port Stephens 51Apr 08, 2018 8:21 pm Holy crap Emma that’s awesome news your site has been cut I’m so pumped for you. I just went roaring up the hallway at my husband waving my phone saying look her block is cut and it’s sooooo pretty and flat. Yeap he thinks I’m nuts . Well done with your tree it should be fine . We have a nature strip tree that we are going to bulldoze with the drott as it’s right in the middle and a pain in my butt. Re: Barbie Dream House - First Build in Port Stephens 52Apr 08, 2018 8:55 pm Haha thank you for sharing the excitement! We pulled up expecting to see just some pegs but got a huge surprise, it looks sooo good. That tree is about two metres tall and had some thick roots, when it came out of the ground I cheered! It is a really lovely ornamental pear and I do hope it survives, hopefully we didn't shock it too much. ~ Emma Re: Barbie Dream House - First Build in Port Stephens 53Apr 08, 2018 9:11 pm That’s the one thing I really like about Homeone, you can share in others excitement and share the journey . I can’t believe how damn flat your block is, you will have a dream run at landscaping too. Ohh I found a really lovely hedging bush too, http://www.australianplantsonline.com.a ... -coco.html Free shipping in orders over $165 Hahahhaha yes I cheer at the small things too . It should be ok, as long as you retained some root system and you mulched around the base, if some of the leaves die off trim them off as the tree will spend energy trying to save the dying/dead leaves instead of regrowing it’s root system hope that helps Re: Barbie Dream House - First Build in Port Stephens 54Apr 09, 2018 7:56 am Oh I really like that! I love the scent of magnolias. To satisfy Council (because we had to chop down the only remaining tree on our block to allow for the house) I have to have 2x 10m tall deciduous ornamental trees in the front garden, plus 2x 10m tall native trees and one 18m tall koala feed tree in the backyard. So far I'm considering: Illawarra Flame Tree (front yard) http://www.australianplantsonline.com.a ... -tree.html Silky Oak (back yard) http://www.australianplantsonline.com.a ... y-oak.html Lemon-Scented Gum (koala feed tree) http://www.australianplantsonline.com.a ... d-gum.html I'd also love to incorporate some purple bottle brush somewhere for a different splash of colour! http://www.australianplantsonline.com.a ... ndens.html Thank you for tree survival tips ~ Emma Re: Barbie Dream House - First Build in Port Stephens 55Apr 09, 2018 9:42 am Most trees seem to be pretty ok at being transplanted; I dug up a Crepe Myrtle last year and stuck it in a pot. Its grown so much since then. Plenty of water and it should be find. Re: Barbie Dream House - First Build in Port Stephens 56Apr 09, 2018 1:49 pm Ventured back to the block for the third day in a row to install a highly sophisticated drip irrigation system: Like ⋅ Add a comment ⋅ Pin to Ideaboard ⋅ Surprised again to find the all-weather vehicular access is now in place! I think we moved the tree just in time. Like ⋅ Add a comment ⋅ Pin to Ideaboard ⋅ Hoping for a fence and a loo by the weekend. Trying to get a sense of our space. The purple bottle brushes are very pretty. Hehehehe Yeap love the drip system, what ever works Your space is huge and you will have some mighty happy chooks at your place. Love your block it’s so flat and has a beautiful outlook. Re: Barbie Dream House - First Build in Port Stephens 58Apr 14, 2018 2:17 pm It's official, we have graduated from dust bowl to build site, complete with a loo! Like ⋅ Add a comment ⋅ Pin to Ideaboard ⋅ Like ⋅ Add a comment ⋅ Pin to Ideaboard ⋅ Like ⋅ Add a comment ⋅ Pin to Ideaboard ⋅ I'm not sure if the tree will survive, the soil was still damp under the sugar cane but the leaves have turned red. It is deciduous and technically it's autumn now, I'm hoping we shocked it just enough to go dormant but not die. Yeap the loo photo is super important I’m waiting on mine. The tree should be ok, in a weeks time snap a little branch off and see if the branch is green. Re: Barbie Dream House - First Build in Port Stephens 60Apr 14, 2018 3:40 pm I'm so pumped for this build to finally take off! I spoke briefly to the tradies, they're on track to finish the plumbing on Monday and then on to slab formwork.
