Ours is pretty toned down, R isn't one to be garrish and although i would really have liked a nice lighter portico we ended up going with the mocha magic (anything darker and it would've looked like a moustache on the house!) MEl P.S. how come i didn't see this post before?? i was googling a pic of the wladorf vanity and then saw this link good idea! Building Waldorf 44 with PD Feel free to follow our build progress - http://melnrobsknockdownrebuild.blogspot.com/ Re: Building a Waldorf by Porter Davis 8Mar 30, 2011 12:40 pm Hey Mel, since we have a chocolate brick we went for "Dreyfus" for the balcony, "Light Leather" for the feature brickwork and "Surfmist" garage door. Since the bricks are dark we want to bright up the front. Plus when we landscape the place, it will all tie in nicely. Re: Building a Waldorf by Porter Davis 9Mar 31, 2011 12:25 pm Electrical Selection Let’s start by detailing my electrical configuration. Before we attended the appointment with Argus at Hopeturn interiors we mapped out every downlight, power point, batten light and everything else we would need on to a house plan. This helped us visualise all our electrical requirements for an optimal fit out. We have a fair idea where we will be plugging in the toaster, microwave, the GHD hair straightener (LOL). You get the picture! In total our electrical upgrades totalled $5,900 which was only $300 above our budget. Home Security System Package: The Ms gets really scared when I’m working late hours and she insisted that we get an alarm system installed for security purposes. Well if it makes her feel safe then of course we will get a security system installed. When researching brand and prices I figured out that it would be a little cheaper getting it installed after handover but the problem was that it’s impossible to get a wired alarm system installed once a double storey house is constructed, the only other option I had was to install a wireless alarm system. Knowing me I would forget to change batteries and the whole system would be useless, so I opted for PD to install it. Installation of a Hills Reliance 12 which includes: 12 zone security system; 4 x PIR (pet friendly); LCD keypad; Alarm panel; Temper switch; Battery pack; Siren; Strobe; Dialler; Phone line; and Single GPO. Sound & Entertainment package: What’s the point of having a theatre room and not having a projector and cables behind walls? I love watching movies and can’t wait to have a dedicated room for watching all of my favourite flix’s. Rewiring for future projector included: HDMI Cable; Component cable; Data cable; and Single GPO. Electrical: Now this is where we start spending most of our electrical budget. I love the look of downlights but I hate the amount of energy that they consume. Given the quoted cost of $$ to upgrade to the Clipsal Saturn (LED) down light throughout the house, we decided to scrap them in favour of the standard low voltage down lights and later on change the globes to the energy type. We decided to put down lights to the entire ground floor only, I found a sparky who will do a post hand over install of $50 per down light. Compared to the $104 which PD is charging. Post hand over I’ll get him to install 25 downlights upstairs and put up some feature lights in the lounge & dining room. We also considered the Clipsal Slimline switches, however for $20 extra per switch this upgrade was purely not worth the price. Re: Building a Waldorf by Porter Davis 10Apr 05, 2011 6:36 pm Hey tstr1a, Your electrical plan sounds exactly like ours. Some other things you might want to consider to be done by PD: batten and noggin for heavy light fittings/ fans, more powerpoints (you can nver have enough). Some things you might want to do after handover: downlights upstairs, dimmers, light tastics for the ensuites, fitting of lights and fitting fans in alfresco. My sparky charges $65 for the downlights... Hmm, if I may request for your contact? I might compare some of the other items I requested. Are you getting the evaporative cooling in the promo? Have you considered if you want supplementary aircon for those really really humid days? We got PD to put in a 20amp cable provision for a split system aircon for the media and master BR. Have you considered a video intercom system? We'll be getting a wireless one after handover but haven't done the research into it yet. Anyone have any ideas? Re: Building a Waldorf by Porter Davis 11Apr 07, 2011 3:06 am Hi Guys! We, too are building the Waldorf and are currently up to Fixing Stage. We chose the Kiandra Facade - a dark brown brick Homestead Tan with Bedbox render. Our timber work is Monument and roof tiles are Sambucca. Painting and Render are yet to be done, but we are thrilled with our colour selections to date. What a great choice in homes we have made!! The floor plan is just magnificent and all the tradies so far, their first comment is how HUGE the house is! Can't wait to move in! Hey there JPZ We are getting ours from JayCar Electronics - they have a colour wireless intercom. Just have to look into if you can get multiple units - one for upstairs and one for down. Re: Building a Waldorf by Porter Davis 13Apr 07, 2011 8:20 am On the weekend we had our tile selection appointment and can I say that the girls at National Tiles are absolutely “AWESOME”. They really demonstrated an interest in our selections and did everything they could to create the look and feel of your dream house. We are lucky to have selected The “Complete Promotion” which includes a whole range of luxury items such as standard builder’s range of tiles to the living areas on the ground floor, wet areas and carpet to the remainder of the house. Being a large house tiling the entire living areas to the ground floor could have been an enormous cost if it wasn’t for this promotion. Now, if you didn’t get the picture by now, we love upgrading. When I get a chance this week I’ll detail our entire tile selection. Also I’ll mention so little ** things that PD does to cut costs which ** me off. Here are couple of disappointing things which I should highlight to any prospective PD customer. Word of advice “Ask as mean questions as you can and get the correct answers”. Hey JPZ, I didn't wanna over do it with electrical. There is heaps which I can do post handover and I thought it would be better to move in first before I make electrical changes, as such I only went crazy on the ground floor. I added heaps of double GPO upstairs and will install down lights post handover... Oh yeah I have heaps of junction boxes outside. I really wanted an intercom.... so bad but at $1,100 which PD is charging I think I'll pass (I must add that PD's system is a good quality one which explains the price tag). I think I'll go for a wireless system at around $400. Re: Building a Waldorf by Porter Davis 15Apr 07, 2011 8:30 am snoofie JPZ Have you considered a video intercom system? I didn't want to have to omit details like names and personal stuff. After we are in I may go through and "de-personalize" it a little and release to the greater public Having said that - more than happy to share some pics with you... do they need to be hosted externally on this forum? Re: Building a Waldorf by Porter Davis 19Apr 08, 2011 3:04 am OK, let's see if this works.... Ooooo.... yay me! This was taken around Week 18 of our build. We are currently at Week 23, I've been a bit slack and haven't uploaded the latest pics yet. We have 51 days to go. The internal plaster has now been hung, arcs, door frames and jambs are in, stairs are in and we are told that paint and cabinetry should be starting any day now. The brickwork for the garage is now also being done, so it will be great to see the house with the garage attached! Due to construction requirements they brick the main house first and then the garage. All in all the process to date has been exceptional, as is the quality of the build. It has been a bit of a rollercoaster lately, but thanks to a wonderful Consultant we have managed to iron out most issues we have had. My one advise is communication is the key. Oh, and don't sweat the small stuff. You may just have one or two people that you just don't "gel" with. To be expected. Don't be afraid to speak your mind, but be reasonable. It's hard not to be emotional with such a large investment in your life and this must also be taken into consideration by both parties. OK... so if you have any questions... fire away .... and happy building! Re: Building a Waldorf by Porter Davis 20Apr 08, 2011 8:15 am snoofie OK, let's see if this works.... Ooooo.... yay me!
