Browse Forums Building A New House 1 Jan 08, 2018 12:21 pm I have lodged gas abolishment on the 19th of October and nothing has happened so far. Numerous phone calls to AGL, then Jemena to get this completed and all the answers I get is that this is being 'escalated', 'waiting for contractor' etc. I lodged a complain with EWON, the gas ombudsmen, today but getting desperate to get this completed after nearly 3 months of waiting. My demolition is booked in for Monday, so exactly in one week. Any other ideas what else to do to get this done NOW? I called my local plumber and he said he could remove and cap the gas meter, but is not allowed to touch the connection to the gas mains. Any experience with getting a temporary capping on until Jemena does the abolishment? David Re: Gas Abolishment pending for 3 months - what to do? 3Jan 09, 2018 7:32 pm Might seem like a strange suggestion but have you commented on their Facebook page? Surprisingly that has achieved positive results for me in the past. Hope it gets sorted for you asap. You have my sympathy. We had the same issue with having NBN abolished. emails and phone calls not answered. Eventually heard from someone 4 days before demo was due. Paid to have it abolished only to be told he didn't know when a technician could do it. In the end it went down with the demo (not something you can do with the gas line obviously). Then we got an email a week later from NBN advising us that the technician had removed the equipment as requested. Re: Gas Abolishment pending for 3 months - what to do? 4Jan 09, 2018 7:48 pm We notified AGL in Sept and the job was done by the end of the month. We rang Jemena every second day and also Zinfar who are the contractors that Jemena use to complete the job. Try calling Zinfra and kindly explain the position your in and if they could help on any way. Good luck! Re: Gas Abolishment pending for 3 months - what to do? 5Jan 10, 2018 10:36 am Thank you for the ideas. Posted on facebook and keep calling them. So far no progress. I can only recommend everyone to start chasing the retailer and distributor the day after the 20 business days (the standard wait period for gas abolishment). In terms of the sub-contractor. I can see news that Zinfra was awarded the contract with Jemena in Sep 2017, but Jemena is telling me that Zinfra is no longer in charge and someone else is doing it. Will ask for the name at the next opportunity. David Re: Gas Abolishment pending for 3 months - what to do? 6Jan 10, 2018 11:42 am Received call from Jemana that works will be done tomorrow. Fingers crossed. I will only believe it once the meter is gone. Hard to pinpoint now which channel helped to actually get this expedited. But my efforts in summary: AGL - New connections team - escalated to manager, which messaged Jemena on 2nd level escalation email Jemena - Called daily multiple times for a week. Escalated to manager, which escalated to the Senior Operations Manager in charge of the contractor EWON - Energy/Gas Ombudsman - lodged complain 2 days ago Facebook posts to both AGL and Jemena (only this morning, so maybe a little late to make a difference).
