Project Home Remote Location

I have looked at prices from project home builders to get some idea of construction costs.
I am looking at land in Tasmania about 100km from Hobart.
I guess the prices quoted are only for building in major cities?
What sort of premium do you have to pay to get a build done 100km from a major centre?

My experience is that in a remote location like that unless there is a local franchise of a project building company you could be looking at least 10-15%.

In a similar location (Rural Gippsland) I got what I considered a reasonable price from a very small local builder for a custom house.

A fcouple of advantages of this approach is:

The local builder has to protect their local reputation.
The local builder has good connections with local tradies rather than paying extra for tradies to travel from the project builders location.

Sound like that would be the most practical approach.

Local builders will know local tradies to avoid travel and accommodation for a remote location build.

If not using a project home but happy to go with a generic basic design then are such designs available off the internet that a builder could work to without incurring architect costs?

If you talk with the builders they may have access to some generic plans.

If buying off the internet make sure you are getting plans that meet Australian Building and Energy Codes. There are a lot of US designs around which may not, and will use imperial dimensions.
