Browse Forums Building A New House Re: Plantation Mirage Vogue Q1 Build - Sherwood, QLD 21May 16, 2018 3:08 pm Love the look of your house! Also really like that you had the old one removed rather than demolished. Re: Plantation Mirage Vogue Q1 Build - Sherwood, QLD 22Jul 15, 2018 5:55 pm House is looking amazing! how is it coming along? We're looking at building a Mirage 43.. we keep coming back to this house.. it's the Eastport façade which has me hooked. At this stage I'm looking to change the master bedroom (i.e. get rid of robes on entry and change ensuite layout and possibly laundry position. Would love to hear from your experience of things you would do differently or wish you would have done? This would be our second build so I have a long list already! Re: Plantation Mirage Vogue Q1 Build - Sherwood, QLD 23Jul 15, 2018 9:27 pm When i was going through tender stage, there were 2 things plantation wouldn't move, the kitchen and the stair case. I did originally try to move the kitchen across to the other side of the house and swap the laundry to the other side as well, but scrapped those plans when I couldn't move the kitchen. In the end, it didn't matter really since I'm happy with the floor plan we ended up with. I was also thinking of swapping the position of the shower and toilet in the main ensuite. We didn't do that because it would have delayed our build by 3 weeks (every change took at least that long) and we would have been hit with a price hike. I'm also not really bothered that I wasn't able to make that change, since now I'm living in it, i like seeing the shower and bath along that wall. I am glad I did move the WIR to beside the master bedroom instead of having to walk through the ensuite to get to it. Also closing off that wall provided the perfect place to put decent width towel rails. The off the plan master ensuite has only a very narrow wall for a towel ladder, which I didn't like. If I was at contract stage again, the only thing I would do differently is to increase the height of the entry door, and maybe move the 2 windows in our living room slightly closer together. I might have also looked into making the upstairs powder room smaller, and maybe copying the layout of the downstairs powder room, but then I'm not sure what I would do with that extra space. I might have also re positioned the door for bedroom 3. I would also have not had the recessed wall in the study (it wasn't required for any plumbing stacks). For the robes in the master ensuite, I'd only have 1 side mirrored and the others just white pmod1 sliding doors. They're all pretty minor things and nothing that I'm really beating myself up about. What are you thinking of putting in place of the robes on entry to the master ensuite? Re: Plantation Mirage Vogue Q1 Build - Sherwood, QLD 24Jul 16, 2018 8:18 pm Thanks for the tips! I'll definitely keep the things you've mentioned in mind. I'm aware of the stairs, most builders have said the same thing i.e. stairs are structural, can't change. The design would have ticked all the boxes if it had the kitchen, butlers, laundry on the same side with all connected. Did you swap your living and alfresco or was that standard when you signed the contract? The current Mirage 43 design has it opposite to you. With the ensuite to master, my thoughts at the moment are to drop the bath (I don't really want two baths upstairs.. feel it's a waste with my 2.5 year old & 8 year old boys getting older but not sure yet which to remove) and to move the vanity where the current bath is and replace vanity with shower similar to the Metricon Vantage layout. The other option is blocking off the entry from inside the master and having a design with the entry from where the small robe/toilet is and the WIR behind master, similar to what you've done. Swapping living and alfresco is a standard option, so we did that to fit a pool in between the alfresco and our left boundary fence, plus the balcony on the top level allowed us to double the size of the alfresco. It worked well. Another benefit (in my opinion) about puting the WIR behind the master is that it reduces the width of the master bedroom. I thought it was far too wide in the standard design. Even now with the WIR behind the master, it is still a big room, but not too big. If you put the vanity where the bath is, where would your window go? The thing abou the mirage 43 is that it's a big house, with lots of rooms. All our rooms are big, so you end up with space that you need to fill. We kept the baths, even though we haven't even used either of them just, partly because we just wanted to fil the space. Re: Plantation Mirage Vogue Q1 Build - Sherwood, QLD 28Jul 26, 2018 10:19 am Excellent! Looking forward to the pics. I'm about to break dirt with Plantation on a build soon, excited to get thing cracking! Hi all. Anyone know when the $11,000 limit was set in legislation for renovations in QLD? Ive been renovating for 5 years now and this was the limit back then. As we know,… 0 4242 Hi, I contracted a Builder to do a Garage to Bedroom + ensuite conversion (Class 1a), the Builder engaged the Certifier and Engineer and received BDA from the Certifier… 0 5015 We used a smaller qld builder who went bankrupt about 12 months after completion of ours. It was a shame as they were good and relatively cheap and I would have used… 3 4694 |
