Browse Forums Building A New House 1 Nov 13, 2017 7:28 am Hi all, I’m currently considering my options with regard to which block of land to buy. I note some of the shortlisted blocks have batters on the front, one side and back. Just wondering if anyone else has a batter on their land ? Does it detract negatively ? From what I can gather it would in effect make this part of the block fairly useless, is that right ? Is it better for a batter to slope up or down ? Re: Batter on land 2Nov 13, 2017 7:37 am I don’t know too much about it but just check if you will have to retain it yourself. Ours will be battered until we retain it ourselves and it looks like it’s going to cost 10-20k to do all the retaining walls. Our driveway is 1 in 5 and it needs a 1.5 metre retaining wall beside it that’s going to cost $5 k to do ourselves. Without grass erosion can be an issue. The Harder You Try - the Luckier You Get !
