Browse Forums Building A New House 1 Nov 08, 2017 2:13 pm Just wondering who everyone used to demolish their house? When in the timeline of events is the best time to book it for? Once you get council approval for the new build, do u then apply to demolish and get services cut etc. Thanks Re: House Demolition Adelaide 2Nov 08, 2017 9:36 pm It depends a lot on if you are living in the house, renting it out or if it's empty. We demolished earlier this year, before we had even submitted for council approval on the new build etc. The house was empty and then the land sat there for ~4 months before the build started. Our neighbors across the road moved out, then disconnected services then demolished. The problem with that is the demolition company were booked solid and they've so they've been out for ~8 weeks and the demolition has just started. Most of the demo companies I spoke to were up front about leadtime at the quoting stage, so I went with one that had a leadtime that matched what I wanted. Also note, the neighbors across the road here told me that the utilities would not let them book disconnections until after the house was vacant. Re: House Demolition Adelaide 3Jan 11, 2018 1:10 pm We demolished our house in september last year We had planned it long in advance and booked in february The company was back logged only 6 weeks. we called them about 4 weeks before we needed the power cut Everything fell into place nicely power was cut and we had about a week to clean out the house before they started the demolishing Services we had cut in september too but we booked it in 8 weeks beforehand because was told there was an 8 week wait You cant specifically request a date for electricity to be cut there will just come do it within the specified time frame. We were still living in the house when the electricity was cut off We knew it was going to happen though so we were prepared to leave as soon as it happened There are fees you need to pay to disconnect power and then reconnect it again just beware Hope this helps Re: House Demolition Adelaide 4Feb 02, 2018 1:38 pm we are hoping to start the demo early next week with Magil Demolition. We were also told that we had to move out before asking for services to be cut (which can then take 4 weeks). we just let them know when we had a rental organised and moving took a lot longer than we thought, so nice to have had a month. So far, gas has been disconnected, but not electricity (so fx that happens today or Monday). We waited to get council approval for build and demo before we booked anything in, but we have been in contact with the demo company well before that. From memory, Magil also needed about 4-6 weeks notice due to their other bookings/ waitlist - and they have taken care of all the disconnections etc. We had this happen to us last year and got charged a variation.
