We are building in south-east Melbourne and I am going down the route of appointing an independent building surveyor rather than going with my builder's "preferred" building surveyor.
There are a number of drawbacks:
- The builder will not communicate directly with my building surveyor, meaning that I have to either appoint an agent to liaise between the builder and the surveyor or do this myself
- I become liable for delay penalty should the surveyor do not response in an timely manner
- I am liable for all costs involved for services rendered by the building surveyor
Has anyone gone down this route? I had been googling for reputable surveyors but I just can't find one that I feel that I can trust to perform quality work.
Pretty much every building surveyor companies market themselves at extremely efficient at issuing permits rather than standing by the quality their work or performing through inspection. They also appears to target their businesses towards builders rather than home owners
Has anyone gone down this route? I'd love to learn about your experience and the costs involved
Thanks in advance
