Browse Forums Building A New House 1 Nov 01, 2017 3:01 pm Should I pay for this change? My colour selection appointment was in October 2016. I purchased my own basins and the builder agreed to install them. I was credited for the basins $450 and charged $210 to have the taps come out of the wall because I was told this was required if I wanted to supply my own basins. My house is near completion and I have been told my basins do not fit because the taps have been installed too low! The builder provided me with a different basin that would fit. I was sent a variation that said the basins would be changed to the builder supplied basins at not added cost or additional time added to the build. I signed and submitted the variation. Minutes later I receive and email saying there was an error to the variation and it will cost me $800 however as a ‘good will gesture’ they will charge me the price I was credited in the contract, $450. The new variation also adds 7 days to my contract. The basins are now costing me: $450- basins that do not fit and are useless to me. Cannot return because I bought them a year ago and the boxes have been opened. $210- to have the taps come out the wall. $450- new basins. = $1110 + 7 days added to my contract! Is this allowed? I feel that it is not my fault, rather the builders, and I am the one being stung!! Their mistake, too late. Re: Builder unable to install basins and I have to pay?! 5Nov 01, 2017 5:24 pm If you signed a Variation in the first place for change in basin then they are obliged to keep to your contract. Any variation becomes part of the contract and if they made a mistake , they need to correct it ! I would insist on having the basins I brought installed as agreed Re: Builder unable to install basins and I have to pay?! 6Nov 01, 2017 6:26 pm When you had it added to the contract for the builder to supply owner installed basins did you provide or did your tender letter or contract have a note that you were to provide a spec sheet? The consultant had to get the plans changed (move the mirror up) and told me I needed to have the taps come out of the wall for the basins to fit and this would cost me $210.
