Asked the demo company for a the EPA's Waste Locate Consignment # and they declined to provide it. I think the fact that they wont provide the Waste Locate Consignment # is quite telling. The EPA themselves clarified that this # would clear up any confusion. did you end up paying them or how did it go ? Re: Fake asbestos removal dockets... what should we do? 6Apr 30, 2022 11:22 am Most customers just look at the staged photo 'proof', accept it, and end up paying the extra $5,000-$10,000. They then thank the demolition company for 'saving' them money by 'emu picking' and bagging the 'hidden' asbestos fragments from 'under the slab', rather than paying much more to dispose of a large quantity of contaminated soil from their site. Its a common, smooth and cynical confidence trick. Make sure before signing the demo contract you understand and agree the steps to verify and manage the 'hidden' asbestos. Don't be influenced by generic comments about great communucation, ethics, honesty, transparency, trust, recommended by my builder...etc. Re: Fake asbestos removal dockets... what should we do? 7Jun 03, 2022 9:24 am ![]() Hi All Hoping to get some advice on this.... Long story short the demolition company we used to knock down our place has sent us fake dockets for asbestos removal. I have confirmed with the waste disposal facility that these are fake, and they have referred the incident to the EPA already. The demolition company currently don't know that we know this. We have not yet paid the invoice they issued us for asbestos removal (obviously the $$ is wrong). It is for a pretty substantial amount of money, but its not clear how much of it was falsely added on by the demo company. we have already paid the original invoice for the removal of the home. The asbestos was found later under a slab in the yard. We did check that there was real asbestos in the slab and soil. I'm stuck in an odd spot where the demolition company are in the wrong but they have leverage over me because they have not given me the clearance certificate. That stops us from beginning to build... Not sure how to approach it. They've clearly done something 'unconventional'. Dont want to approach it and have them drive through in the middle of the night and dump waste on our lot. Dont want them to with hold the clearance certificate. Also dont want to get screwed over and get turned into a A Current Affair segment... The dump reported them to the EPA already, not sure if that means there is nothing to lose and they will now be cowboys. Should I get a lawyer? It seems pretty straightforward to get them to update the invoice with the "true" amount. However, that seems like they are basically getting let off the hook to scam others. What do you guys reckon? which demo company ? is that Democorp ? Trust me, its in my sig. Re: Fake asbestos removal dockets... what should we do? 9Jul 05, 2022 7:46 pm Same with my exp last month. But due to deadline set by our builder to hand over the site or risk get price hike on 1 July (40k extra), we just closed our eyes for con (but may be true) reason : ‘asbestos found under house, under slab, etc’. With photo provided without any deep investigation, we can nego variation from 10k to 7.5k cash. My advise is same advise from my reputation builder estimation : 30k for demolish house with asbestos. If demo quote you 20k, just get prepare for 30k. Re: Fake asbestos removal dockets... what should we do? 10Jul 05, 2022 9:45 pm ![]() ![]() Hi All Hoping to get some advice on this.... Re: Fake asbestos removal dockets... what should we do? 12Jul 06, 2022 10:19 am Its a smooth confidence trick. Be wary of any demolition company that spruiks their "ethics, trust, honesty, and transparency..." if they claim "hidden asbestos" and send you the photos require them to stop the works, inspect yourself - or get an expert, and if they proceed then go and personally watch and record all their extra "emu picking" or "chicken bobbing" asbestos fragment bagging work in full PPE that they will try to bill you for, saying they are 'saving you money". Then when I get it to I can see they even didn't dispose the sheets they already removed from eves and even issued us with clearance certificates. It seems this is the trick all demo guys do; asbestos they pulled from the house under whats included in the contract as known asbestos and then later recycling it as a 'unknown find' to trick customer end up paying heaps more on a tonne rate. Hopeless as the govt is also in with these scums. By the way what did it costs you guys did demo in the last 2 years ? for a brick house Re: Fake asbestos removal dockets... what should we do? 14Aug 02, 2022 5:44 am ![]() ![]() Its a smooth confidence trick. By the way what did it costs you guys did demo in the last 2 years ? for a brick house It really depends on the size of the house but this year with high fuel prices we have been paying anywhere between $25,000-30,000. By the way, getting your own clearance certificate is super easy and not that expensive. You dont have to rely on the demolition company who subbies it out anyway.
