Browse Forums Building A New House 1 Dec 07, 2006 4:13 pm Hi everyone
We have signed up to build a new place north of the river in Perth. This is the 3rd time we have built - the last 2 times I found is really easy deciding on external colours but this time I just have no idea what I want!!!! The house is going to be fully rendered with a colourbond roof so if anyone has any colour combination ideas that would be great! I was thinking perhaps for the main colour a dark cream/almost beige colour for the render and then a dark blue colourbond roof with a timber look garage door...the house has a kinda-country look about it from the front with verandahs so I want something quite fresh looking?? I really don't have any idea what I wantl so if anyone has any ideas or suggestions as to what is in at the moment or looks good that would be really appreciated. Thanks Nat Re: Help External Colour Ideas? 2Dec 07, 2006 4:26 pm The "MyColour" pages on the Dulux website might give some guidance. Nat, to be honest….. I’m am over the blue colorbond roofing, it’s been done to death!! For me to give you a FULL colour selection I would need to see an elevation of your plans. Or a photo of a home already built in the plan you are building. Are the verandas bullnoise? So heres my colour suggestions off the top of my head. 1) Roofing, Facias and Gutters – Colorbond “Dune” (Lighter colours fade slower!) 2) Eaves - Dulux “Light Glaze” 3) Walls - Dulux “Light Glaze” 4) Windows - “Dune” 5) Front Door - solid timber – stained to match garage door. 6) Garage Doors – Timber Look – Smooth, not a lot of pattern. Is the door double? 7) Deep red ceramic pots along the front of the veranda with lush green plants. This is a monochromatic colour scheme, very classy….and will not out date! Which is the most important thing. You can check on the wall colour at any paint store, get a sample of the colorbond Dune and take with you when you look at the paint colour. Better still a sample pot is only $6 or $7 and worth the expense to get it right. You are then complementing the monochromatic colours with the flash of red in the ceramic pots. It will look good. If I could see the elevations I could possibly give you a second colour (feature colour) for the externals but not knowing the design of the home it’s a bit hard. Good luck, if you have any more questions feel free to ask away. ![]() Internal and External Building and Colour Consultant Online - Worldwide http://www.denovoconcepts.com Re: Help External Colour Ideas? 5Dec 07, 2006 7:52 pm Wow Michelle - Thank you so much. I wasn't expecting such detail...I am going to go to Dulux first thing in the morning and get some sample of the colours. I can't thank you enough!
The front of the home we are building is based on this home: http://www.ventura-homes.com.au/home.htm?id=63&series=8 But we have changed the front to get rid of the colourbond cladding and feature brick along the front (just rendered) and the colourbond gable above the garage is now just a hardi-plank gable as I wasn't keen on the colourbond cladding at all as we are building in the metro area and thought it was just too country looking! Thanks Again - it is really appreciated Nat Re: Help External Colour Ideas? 6Dec 07, 2006 8:01 pm Nat…that’s a really nice home!!!
The colours will work well. One colour only, you don’t need the feature colour. Good luck and my pleasure, stay open to my colours while you’re looking at them tomorrow. Try to visualise the look. ![]() Internal and External Building and Colour Consultant Online - Worldwide http://www.denovoconcepts.com Re: Help External Colour Ideas? 7Dec 07, 2006 9:21 pm Hi Nat and all,
I too can recomend a lighter colorbond roof colour. Our house is one of the last being built in our street so far and we are the only ones who have a lighter roof. Originally we wanted a dark colour roof however after asking our colour selections rep what everyone was choosing we decided to be different. We went for shale grey which may not work with your cream render vision but we can recomend it none the less. Re: Help External Colour Ideas? 8Dec 13, 2006 5:15 pm Hi Michelle
I just wanted to say THANKS SO MUCH for the colour advice. I got a paint sample & colorbond sample today and I'm so happy with them. At first I though ohhh perhaps a little bit too similar but I think it will look great with the timber look door garage & front door! I was hoping to continue the same sort of colour theme in the interior as well so it all flows with perhaps some feature walls etc. to add some other colour. Would you suggest using the Light Glaze inside as well as the main colour or should I look for something of a similar tone but in a lighter shade? Thanks Again Nat Re: Help External Colour Ideas? 9Dec 16, 2006 12:33 pm Sorry Nat, seems I’m not getting notified when responses come in from posts.
I will have a look at this later for you, Sorry caught up with some work at the moment. Yes I have the correct boxes ticked, just happens every now and again. Not all the time. Thanks. ![]() Internal and External Building and Colour Consultant Online - Worldwide http://www.denovoconcepts.com Re: Help External Colour Ideas? 12Dec 16, 2006 2:51 pm Nat,
The lightest colour of this range is -: Dulux “Eggshell” P10.B1 this is one step up from the “Light Glaze” This will give you the internal and externals the one colour intensity. Just different shades of. Good flow colour for feature walls as well. ![]() Internal and External Building and Colour Consultant Online - Worldwide http://www.denovoconcepts.com Re: Help External Colour Ideas? 13Dec 16, 2006 9:29 pm ![]() Good to see you’re not missing much Homeone! Yes I have the correct boxes ticked, just happens every now and again. Not all the time. Thanks. ![]() It's happened to me a couple of times too. Nothing regular, seems random. If all you can see are obstacles, you have lost sight of the goals Re: Help External Colour Ideas? 15Dec 27, 2006 1:45 pm Thanks Michelle - have grabbed a sample pot of the Eggshell this morning and I love it...you are brilliant!
The only issue I am having with the exterior is that the window supplier our builder uses does not offer windows in the Dune colour...there is just standard white, some creams, black, blues and anotech dark grey...not sure which way to go with this? Also I am wondering whether to bring some sort of feature colour at the front with the gable above the garage...if I wanted to add a feature colour at the front do you think I would be better just going for a darker shade of the render or something totally different like a splash of blue? Hope you had a lovely Xmas - we had 30 people here for Xmas and it was great! Only problem is that there was so much leftovers I can't stop eating all the bad stuff!! Nat Re: Help External Colour Ideas? 16Dec 27, 2006 6:16 pm Hi Nat,
I had a good xmas and like you have not stopped eating, clothes are getting tight…. 30 people, way to go, I struggled with the 10 I had!!! Ok… windows I would suggest looking at the Grey, see what you think, the other colours are too obvious. I looked at the photo of your house again, it has the blue. I also think there is blue on the small portions of wall at the front windows. At least that what it looks like in the photo, so it’s a balanced colour scheme. You can’t just throw a colour somewhere, for the hell of it and think it will work, if it’s the ONLY different colour. Remember, you have a timber look double garage door, go back to the link and look again at your homes photo….. Do you see much wall space to work with? NO!!!! Its all windows and garage door. So what little wall space and barge area your have you will need to use to work your colour scheme. Don’t be scared, I know you may think its looking bland, but you will be surprised. Sorry….am I making sense?? Maybe too much xmas cheer….? Heres a good tip for everyone. Get a spare elevation (Plan) of your home, some GOOD colouring in pencils, and colour render the elevation with pencils as close to the paint colour as possible. Better still; use the colour pot samples of paint and do a paint job on the elevations. That way you will really know what your home will look like. Hope you have a great New Year!!! Then maybe we can throw out the left overs!!! We;re building with Eden Brae in Sydney. THey share a number of the designs with Porter Davis. We're looking at a single storey home with a Hotham facade like the Hayman 34 on Porter Davis' website (www.porterdavis.com.au). We're having eaves though. We're looking at rendering some of the front facade and also using some bricks like the picture on the website but we;re trying to avoid timber windows on the front facade for maintenance reasons. Can anyone suggest aluminium colours for the windows and also fascia ond roof tile colours (no colorbond for us)? If not, does anyone know of reputable colour consultants in Sydney that (a) don't charge an arm and a leg and (b) are willing to do small residential work? Thanks, Jamie & Katherine Re: Help External Colour Ideas? 19Feb 03, 2007 8:03 am I have just been onto Porta Davis Website, its one of the best I’ve seen, and their designs are great!!!!
No wounder so many people talk of building with them….. Jamiet…..NICE HOME, If you are doing the brickwork and render similar to the photo on the web site, I would choose a light window, colorbond Sandbark or Paper Bark. But please…. Get a sample of these colours before deciding as I am working from a photo and they may not match with the real thing. Get a sample of your brick then look for the window colour, but keep the colour as close to the brick work if you can. As far as a designer or decorator in Sydney goes check out this link there quite a few of us in there, you just need to enter your post code and it should bring ones closest to you. Get prices, but……its not always the best choice taking the cheapest, as with experience comes cost. Apparently we will have a session with an independent colour consultant as part of our deal. So much so, if we don't show after we book in a time, we'll get charged the consulting fees. However, that doesn't mean the consultant is necessarily any good. THey just might be the lowest bidder for the builder. We'll go to the appointment and if not completely happy, we'll be looking elsewhere. Just a quick note about your suggestions. For the part of the facade that is rendered the neutral colour, should we go for the sand or paperbark aluminium on that section as well? FYI, I'll be putting off-white timber plantation **** on the front windows. Cheers, Jamie & Katherine Our house was built in 2008 It has birch white windows has rendered walls. We are looking to repaint everything inside and out. I'm wondering what colour schemes have… 0 2771 Could anyone help with suggestions on roof colour. House rendering is Linseed.
